Before you start

I am looking to evaluate and setup a drupal site on our server which is already running a live site so I am a bit hesitant to rebuild PHP and MySQL.

the "Minimum Requirements" for drupal say you need PHP v 4.3.3+ and MySQL 4+
I am currently running PHP 4.3.11 and MySQL 3.23.58

My question is, is that close enough? Will it install and work (save for one or two features) or will it not work at all?

Searched through forums but could not find relevant info.

I would like to have a multi site install like: www.xyz.com and xyz.abc.com. But also I would like the login page to be different for for those login in to www.xyz.com than for login in to xyz.abc.com.
Is this possible?

so, I'm looking for people who can and want to guide me in a local installation of Drupal on my Powerbook.

These are my skils:
proficient Mac skills
good knowledge of HTML, CSS and also Drupal installation on a webhost.
PHP: very little
MySQL: PHP MyAdmin, no shell command skills in the Terminal, I've tried the Terminal app already but clearly I don't understand a lot of it.

This is my setup:

Powerbook 15 inch, aluminium, OSX 10.3.6.

Hi,

Typical noob question here, I searched, but its really hard to search for anything containing "forum" without getting overwhemling results.

Using the built-in forums module, and permissions, I see how I can restrict users in certain roles from creating and editing. But how do I restrict visibility by role? This is pretty common for forums, I want private forums for users in a certain role, and public forums for, well, the public.

Is this possible?

Could I have found this answer myself, if so, what should I have done?

if one pastes text from MS word, fckeditor does its best to clean up the code. However it does not produce w3c compliant code.

Are there any other wysiwyg editors that produce cleaner code?
