How hard is it to change the Admin interface?

I want my site to be authored by multiple people who aren't super-computer savvy... So the admin interface should be really simple and only present the options that they'll need and not confuse them with a million different options. I tried the Drupal demo and it seems very complicated on the admin side. This is great for me, but is there a way to configure the admin UI for certain users so that it looks differently? If not, would it be easy for me to change it manually in the code to look the way I want it to?

how to handle different languages?

Hi!

I need to create a website in 3 different languages... I have read that Drupal is particular good at this.

... do I have to install drupal 3 times in order to have buttons and forms in the 3 different languages?

would you give me ideas or links for handling this task?

thank you!

Negotiating Drupal's power vs its file-count + size (in MB)

I've recently researched open source CMS's, primarily Drupal vs Joomla. Consensus (as you probably know) is Drupal is more powerful, flexible, yet more complicated, with steeper learning curve.

Something I'm having trouble understanding:

Drupal 5.1 has 277 files in 53 folders, weighing in at 2.2 MB (2.9 MB on disk).

By contrast, Joomla 1.5 beta-2 (released this week) has 3,332 files, in 633 folders, weighing in at 11 MB (20 MB on disk).

3,332 vs 277 files
11 vs 2.2 MB

How can a program so much smaller be considered more powerful?

Another Newbie mysql question.....

Ok, so I go to the first screen of Drupal and it ask for:

Database Name: (I enter for example) db3270322

User Name: (I enter for example)dbo43232342

Password: *******

My database is for example, bla321.gogo.net

I enter in my information and what I get back is: Failure to connect to your MySQL database server. MySQL reports the following message: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2).

Where do I enter in the address of the database(bla321.gogo.net)????

Can anyone help!!???

Thanks
