Drupal for 3-tier user site with large file repository?

I am looking at a project that involves a 3 tier user base and a large file repository.

Basically, it's Admin -> Domain -> User

1. The admin has 6 levels of access and grants access to a domain (or list of domains) when they register (off-site for now).
2. The domain contact then informs all members of the domain they can register at the site.
3. The user registers and is tied for the life of their account to the Domain.
4. The user can only see certain content and most importantly only download certain files (5,000+ file repository).

There are 3 perceived use cases at this time that could of course be mixed and matched. For this example, let's call the levels "Super" and "Regular" and here are the 3 cases. Is this something Drupal can do, and how much (if any) custom programming would be needed to provide secure access to both pages and files to be downloaded?

Can I integrate my J2EE application with Drupal?

Hi

I hv a requirement where I need to build a CMS based website, but I also have lot of database driven content which I would otherwise have displayed using my J2EE application.

If I build my website using Drupal, how woudl I go about it? will Drupal let me host all my dynamic applicaions also??

THx
I am really confused

Between a rock and a hard place

Hi all,

I have been looking over Drupal and think it will meet many of my needs, but I am not sure it will meet them all.

I recently decided to upgrade my aging site as I am at the point where I would prefer to focus on content and not site management/development.

I was hoping a CMS would help me.

I took a look at PHPnuke, but did not like the presentation and many of the others I had never heard of (including Drupal).

I then decided to take a look at PostNuke and after initial test decided to use it. All was well and I was happily adding files and fixing it up to suit my needs.

But as time went on, things started to go bad, and uncovered many flaws that render PN quite useless.

After nearly 200 hours of work I am now faced with the fact that it needs to be replaced. It is too full of bad design decisions that do not become apparent until you begin to actually use it.

Registration and session handling are a nightmare, the downloads sections is beyond broken (total lack of error trapping), bot indexing behavior is awful... I could go on, but I am not here to trash postnuke (much) but try to express that I am at my wits end and I need a solution.

This is the site, it is a cross-over tech/aviation/multimedia production site.

Drupal as a community support site

I'm wondering how Drupal would work as a community support site. Specifically, I'm looking for forums, real time chat, and content management. I'm especially interested in the integration between the three and the ability to organize large number of requests. The current system we use is phpBB, MediaWiki, and IRC that's not at all integrated. How would Drupal work in such a situation? Are there popular sites other than this one that use Drupal in this way?

Drupal vs. Typo3 vs. Xaraya

First off, let me say I've been going through the forums a bit, and really appreciate the content provided here. You guys have given me a lot to think about, and helped me solidify several ideas. This is my first post here, and I'm pretty new to the whole CMS thing. Anybody can slap together a basic website, but this is somewhat more involved, so I figured I'd better pick the brains of a more experienced community.

Creating A custom form

I want to build a custom form which interacts with a Mysql db

Questions:

  1. What is the process to do this? How easy or how hard is the process?
  2. Can this be done in the CMS or is there a 3rd party extension to assist in this process?
  3. Any examples that can be provided in showing me the process?
  4. Once this is built, what is the process to make changes to the form and re-implementing the form in the CMS.

Ideally I would like to see an example from building the form, to having it implemented in Drupal
