CMS for a VERY non-technical non-profit group at a museum

I've been asked to donate some time to put together a new website for a VERY non-technical group of people that support a local museum. Currently, they pay somebody to post simple updates to a site for them - only because that person originally built the site in Frontpage. Ack.

I'm familiar with Mambo/Joomla, Wordpress, and a number of different types of forum software.

Wordpress is very easy to update due to its simplicity, but I'm afraid that it may not have enough extended plugins to support features that they want. Seeing how this is unpaid work, I would like to find a solution that does not require any coding other than to set up the template and site structure for them.

Joomla and Mambo are powerful, but I'm afraid that the front-end and back-end editing will be too complicated for them. I haven't spent a lot of time submitting Joomla content through the front end editing and submission tools, though - only through the administrative interface.

What about Drupal? I have not used it before. However, it seems to have modules that fit most of the needs of the group. Would it be easy for a non-technical person to add content?

They're looking for:
- basic portal functions
- event calendar (integration with Google Calendar would be ideal)
- discussion forum
- email newsletter tool

Now my questions;

Need advice for site with downloads

Hi,

I need to build a website for an IT consulting company which will need to have the following features:

Which modules for my website ?

Hello,

First of all, let me precise that I'm new to this CMS and don't know it at all. I used to use Xoops for my websites, but I think that Drupal would be better for the project I have.

I'm going to start a new website using Drupal and I would like :

  • blogs for each member
  • news and articles which would be written by only few persons
  • a calendar to manage events
  • a forum (the one included in Drupal ? The forum on my actual website is the most important part)
  • a chat (Ajax)
  • a gallery (menalto ? acidfree ? All members have to be able to have it's own gallery)
  • Gmap to localize users and best spots/areas (it's a website on a sport/art : Parkour)
  • profiles which match interests and informations, like : http://drupal.org/profile/country/France
  • a video module where people would be able to upload their own videos which would be then played, or to publish their youtube videos (a bit like this on this website : http://ifood.tv/ )
  • a links page or a links module, where people would be able to submit links to parkour related website/blogs
  • a page where we could find a list of contacts for coachs
  • a page where we could find a list of shops / wear / T-shirt etc. (no shops on the site for the moment)

User defined prices for E-Commerce?

I am currently looking for a way to have site users enter a price to pay through an ecommerce solution. This is for a city website that is sending out water and trash bills. The citizen would receive the bill in the mail, then be able to log into the site and pay their bill online with a credit card.

They should just have to enter name, address, account number (from billing statement), the total amount they are paying and fire t off.
