Using a secondary database for Fields

I'm new to Drupal, and am looking to figure out how to use a secondary database to store data for a particular set of data.

I'll have two databases, both MySQL databases that are associated with Drupal sites. Let's call them OrgDB and SiteDB. The OrgDB will have tables with meta data for SiteDB (there will be multiple SiteDBs in the very near future and the meta data will need to be maintained by the modules available to the Drupal site who's default database is OrgDB).

How do I edit items in my dropdown menu?

Please visit the link above. I had a contractor develop everything up to this point. I would like to know where I can determine what shows up under each main menu item. Having trouble finding that area of the admin. I should also mention I am very comfortable using CMS in general (very experienced in wordpress/joomla), but I just can't get the hang of Drupal.

which theme I use to start for my site?

Hello there,

I am an ex-joomla user and started with Drupal 7. I'd like to make a website for our IT commpany. Can anyone tell me where to start or which theme I use to realise this? Please take a look at this jpeg for the startpage: http://users.telenet.be/destilink/ADIT-Startpaginakopie.jpg

Otherwise I'd like to start from scratch with building a theme based on ZEN or someother. Can somebody give me some advise please?

Thank you , regards, Sven

User#1 = root or mere admin?

Hello,

Does user#1 (the one created at install time) has special superadmin/root powers or is it merely an administrator (and so can lose full access privileges)? I do not know if the behaviour is the same for D6 and D7. Whatever the answer, I think it should be made clear at install time.

Thanks.

2010 Google Summer of Code project applications now open!

2010 is here and its time for another Summer of Code, courtesy of Google! For those who don't know, Summer of Code is an amazing program in which student developers are paid a stipend by Google in exchange for working on open source projects along with mentors from those projects. Drupal has benefited enormously from Summer of Code over the years. Many of our most productive and well-known members are former Summer of Code students, including Drupal 7 core maintainer Angela Byron (webchick), Drupal 6 core maintainer Gábor Hojtsy and many many more. For more information see the Summer of Code FAQ.

2010 marks Drupal's sixth year being accepted as a mentoring organization. Last year we successfully completed 21 student projects and it would be great to match or even surpass that this year, but there are two things we need to make that happen - Students and Mentors!
