function to call current language

Is there a function to call the current language? Or do I have to make one? I am going about the menus in a complicated way (not only multilingual text but also multilingual links) and I would like a variable to give an if statement...

Need a suggestion for image handling.

I'm changing the format of my site to include game reviews. I was wondering if there was a module out there anyone could suggest, that would allow me to add images to my stories? I would preffer one that could place images within a paragraph, or multiple images at the end. I simply don't want to write it if one already exists.

thx in advance,
P.

Changes made to modules installed

Hi - I am a complete novice to Drupal and would appreciate help on this topic. We successfully installed Drupal on MySQL and all appeared well until I selected a number of Modules to be enabled and clicked save. Now we get the following error when try to access the navigation: administer\site build\modules and administer\site build\menu\primary links
