Installing Drupal

Hello everybody and sorry for my English.

I have one question. My problem is, when you create one Basic Page for you Site.
That you can't create an new blockelement. For example a new text area. You can
only work in the body area from this Basic Page, but you can't add a new element
were you can write other informations or show a picture, right?

I am just learning how to manually Install.

I am unsure what to do now, if it can be changed.

What has gone wrong please?

I have a customer and with a Drupal 7 installation and I am in the process of trying to move it to a new location and am having a massive problem with moving the database. The database in total in about 47 gigs. Some of the larger tables like cache_field and the search field i understand can be rebuilt and do not need to be moved but that still does not cut the size of the database to a reasonable size.
