Google Analytics/ E-Commerce Integration

Project Description:

Enhance both the google_analytics and ecommerce modules so that ecommerce can submit successful transaction to Google Analytics. Also the google_analytics module should be extended to allow administrators to easily set up and track other features such as goals and campaigns

Motivation:

The tracking of transactions statistics created by E-Commerce is currently very simplistic and doesn't really allow the administrators/managers to analyse this information easily. With the creation of Google Analytics the analyst of web based information is a lot more comprehensive and allows a framework that managers and non technical parties can analyst this information easily.

Success criteria:

The project will be deemed successful if all the statisics can be captured by Google Analytics. This should include transactions where the indication of successful payments originates from a payment collection service like Paypal where the IPN (instant payment notification) is sent directly to the site outside of the communitcation between Drupal and the user.

Roadmap:

  1. Install Drupal 4.7 and E-Commerce. Get acquainted with the structure of Drupal modules and hooks.
  2. Study google_analytics module
  3. Extend the google_analytics module to only submit transaction with completed orders, and make sure that the transactions are going to a user's browser and not a automated notication service.
  4. If there is time available extend google_analytics to incorporate other Google Analytics functionality such as campaigns and goals.
