I am developing a community-type website, using Drupal. This is my first project with Drupal. My tendency was to use Drupal 6.2, since it is the latest version, but later I found out that there is still a long way until all the important modules will be upgraded to 6.2.
I want to convert the site www.tutsbuzz.com to drupal. But I don't know how to do this. I have some questions about converting:
how to convert the menu system in this site to drupal. (It actually consists of two database tables for main categories like 2D Graphics, 3D Graphics etc. and sub-categories like Adobe Photoshop which is sublevel of 2D Graphics)
Do I need to create this menu as a vocabulary in taxonomy
if yes, should I create the main categories like 2D Graphics, 3D Graphics as terms and sub-categories like Adobe Photoshop as a sub-term which has 2D Graphics as parent term.
if no, how can I do this
how can I convert the tags system to drupal.
should I use taxonomy on drupal to convert them ?
actually the site has thousands of tags available and if I convert to taxonomy, does it affect the performance of the site ?
should I use an extra module for tags ? if yes, which module...
About performance of the drupal:
drupal is running on my localhost quite slowly. I just used the devel module and have seen that drupal is running thousands of queries on every page load! some pages take 2 or 3 seconds to load! how to run it with the best performance!
I am in the process of trying to figure out what the best way to convert from wordpress to drupal. I have done this in the past one time and I used http://www.borber.com/en/projects/wp2drupal that plugin. Last time I used it, it worked great. But when I did it, it was a blog with like 30 posts.
Whats the best way to convert 40,000 posts as I think my server would time out or something would happen. Is there anyway to convert everything locally like on my computer?
I am kinda new to all this so please bear with me if my terminology is not quite correct. A buddy of mine has a website with startlogic. The server info is as follows: CGI Active
