Forward to other site site while in maintenance mode

Hi there,

I'm converting an (old) existing website to drupal. And I want to do the following:

Drupal development in tandem with existing site

Howdy, I need to know what files I need to amend/remove in order to develop a new drupal site on the same server as the current existing HTML website.

The client can not tolerate downtime during the development, so I have been developing the new Drupal site on another server, but would like to migrate it over, and make sure everything works in the new server environment.

Trying to include image galleries in listings, looking for suggestions

Howdy,

I've been working for about a week trying to get a small video game related page converted over to Drupal. I like Drupal because it allows me to make fields for all the data in my game listings and use taxonomy terms to help sort and find these listings. I have a content type created for my game listings using CCK fields, and faceted search which works really well for finding/sorting the listings. Example: http://psxanimelist.mattsmessyroom.com/drupal-5.7/

What I'm stuck on is trying to get images in the listings the way I'd like. What I'm looking for is ideally to keep the listings looking something like they do now. Example: http://www.mattsmessyroom.com/ps1anime/3X3_Eyes_Lord_of_Souls/3X3_Eyes_L.... However, I'd like to make the screenshot gallery have more than just a few images, I'd like to be able to add as many as I'd like with a "preview" on the listing page of a handful of screenshots that will link to the "gallery" that ideally breaks the thumbnails up into pages if there is more than a certain amount. I'd actually love to give registered users the ability to upload screenshots to these galleries pending administrator approval.

Please make some recommendations on converting my site

Hello,
I built and maintain http://therootsofmusic.com/ for a friend's charity organization. Currently its mostly static html with the header/banner/sidepanel/footers in a layout.php file and the two assembled via php. Over the past year, as the organization has grown so have their needs to the point that they're contacting me to make changes every week. To save myself and them the bother it is now time to encorporate a CMS.

I chose to transfer the site to Drupal because it is open source, popular, respected, and knowing how to work with it will likely come in handy in the future. I need the site managers to be able to update content without having to know html or php but I do not forsee a time when we will need comments or anything like that (maybe a forum for the students to use could be handy).
So question #1 (and asking on the drupal forum I can predict the response): do you recommend drupal as a simple solution to the task or is there something else I should be looking at?

Question #2 is: I've read up enough on Drupal to understand that I will need to create my own theme in order to trully be able to recreate the site as it is now, does anyone know of a theme that could serve as a good starting point given the current site structure? Is there a way to browse themes easily?
