Is it possible to show a translation as default for frontpage and be different from the default language in language settings?

Hi.

I am trying to build a multilingual site but I am having some problems of how to set the default language when a visitor comes to site, because the default language is in English.

I know I can change the default language in settings but there are 2 problems.

First one is this warning
"Warning: Changing the default language may have unwanted effects on string translations."

Help...
I seem to be following instructions to get my arabic language loaded into the Drupal site. This is a hosted site on SiteGuard and maybe I do not have the right access.

So far i have
Enabled Locale Module (check)
Enabled Arabic as the second language under Site Configuration (check)

Download the Arabic file from Drupal (the .tar file) (check)
Extracted all the .po files (check)

Alternate tets in different languages, CCK

I'm creating a bilingual site (Welsh/English) for an arts organisation.

I've used CCK to create an "Artist profile" type, to hold information on artists.

I want to supply an English-language text and a Welsh one (i.e. not to have automatic translation).

If I create a new event, I can select English, enter the English language text, save it, then choose Welsh as the language, enter the Welsh text and save it, and then the event switches between the two when I use the language switcher.

automatic tranlations

I'm looking at possibly trying to write a new module for drupal which will do the same task as global translator in Wordpress.

I know drupal is a lot more complicated than wordpress but it should still be possible.

Would anyone be interested in a module of this type - I don't want to waste my time looking into it if people don't want it. Has something like this been tried before?

it would be good to get some feedback

thanks

Kevin

Translate (i18n) one vocabulary for the default View "Glossary"

First all sorry for me english... is automatically traslated by Babel Fish from http://www.altavista.com/.....

Hello to all! I have had to add to the English language (Module i18n) to my site localized in Italian and, during the several operations I have had translate also the terms (of a determined language) of every dictionary (admin/content/taxonomy/7/translation) for being able to then select in the Views (exposed filters) the terms of which to listare the contents.

In order to make this, I have before had to duplicate (to small hand…) all terms of every dictionary so as to be able to select (to blacken) in the Views for the filti exposed (and also those not exposed) the terms pertaining to each 2 language so as to obtain Views, one for l' Italian and one for l' English…
