Heinz Trucking

... And this is my personal site. It began mostly as a tool for learning drupal, so I'm having fun playing with CCK and Views and generally using it as a test bed as well as a personal site.

Feedback on the theme would be appreciated - I keep hearing that my designs are "old fashioned".

Amerikick Phoenixvill

I set this site up as a favor for a friend; feedback on the theme would be appreciated - I keep hearing from people that my designs are "old fashioned".

The main goal is informational; registered students have access to a lot of educational material that is hidden from anonymous users.

Chesmont Astronomical Society

http://www.chesmontastro.org/

Originally created as a discussion and information site, it's been pretty much taken over by the astrophotographers!

This is a re-launch of the site, migrating to Drupal 5.x. I would have gone to 6.x, but acidfree hasn't been upgraded for 6 and I don't know of any other upgrade paths.

(That's not to diss the acidfree maintainer; I know what it's like to support a FOSS project and hold down a day job...)

Visual Notion Launches New Company Site

Visual Notion has finally launched it's new website!

After approximately 56 comps and variations (I'm my own worst critic), two and a half years of being on the backburner for client work, we finally have our new company site up and running.

Modules Used:

CCK (Content, Content Templates (just to track down variables), Fieldgroup, IMCE Image, Option Widgets, Text), Taxonomy, Upload, Pathauto, IMCE, Page Title, Webform and Views

Theme Used:

'Pure' is the custom theme I designed and created. It is a fluid width design with a small snippet of PHP that controls adding a body ID based on the portfolio work so I can have a client-related color in the color band for each client page. The website does use a PNG fix for Idiot Explorer 6 (IE6).

Additional Help:

Elvis McNeely helped me with the PHP that converts the node title into the body ID (and I modified it the tiniest bit to work with the 'work' page view).

Additional Features:

I created a custom content type for 'project' so I can use IMCE to add my custom sized teaser (thumbnail) images and slideshow images for each client project page.

Cornerstone Bible Church

Visual Notion recently launched the new Drupal-based website for Cornerstone Bible Church.

The website uses:

Modules: Views, Event, Event Repeat, Date API, Taxonomy, IMCE, Pathauto, SimpleMenu, Token, Webform, TinyMCE

Knight News Challenge Garage, powered by Drupal, designed and developed by pingVision

The Knight News Challenge Garage launched (beta) today. In the press release, the site is described:

Fifty coaches are standing by online to help innovative thinkers apply for the Knight News Challenge, a $5 million-a-year contest to move journalism into the 21st Century. The coaches — made up of past jurors and winners — will give News Challenge hopefuls a better chance of winning up to $5 million in prizes annually. They also hope to attract a more diverse range of ideas.

The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation has funded the contest with $25 million over five years. Its goal is to discover new ways of using digital technology to meet the information needs of geographic communities. Last year’s contest received 3,000 applications. It named 16 winners.

The new “Knight News Challenge “Garage” mentoring site can be accessed online at garage.newschallenge.org. “With this incubator site we are taking a page from technology companies,” says Gary Kebbel, Knight Foundation’s journalism program officer. “We hope that the Garage coaches will extend the contest’s reach beyond the journalism field. We want to attract more applicants from technical communities, such as the social media arena. Another goal is to improve the overall quality of applications.”
