multisite not working for some reason

I've tried several ways to get a multisite setup working, but every single attempt fails misserably

started by trying the way described in http://drupal.org/node/147828

when I went to www.example.com/site_1 I got a page not found page

Drupal @ multi-user blogging

I am starting a site for our County (unofficial) where residents can create their own blogs.

I need a system where blogs would be put on the front page, perhaps with a "Special Selection" blod sticky at the top for hand selected blog posts....or maybe a system where users vote on a blog post and those with the highest votes are put on the front page (sort of like digg.com in this regards).

Will Drupal allow many users to create blogs with a front end where newest or highest voted blogs would be seen easily?

I really need some advice / help

Hi all Drupal people!

I hope you forgive me for sneaking in to this community although I'm not a developer ;)

The thing is that I am an entrepreneur who developed a community in Joomla and no matter what I tell my coder to do he starts to cry out "Not possible" Seems to be the most common words I get out of him. I start to feel sorry for for him so I need to make some changes and that's why I am here. From what I read so far its seems like I'm not in the wrong place :)

I have a few questions that I hope someone can answer for me.

So far I understand that Drupal is perfect for developing a community far more advanced / flexible than I can do with Joomla?

My fantasy is to build a community where I can use some kind of API like Opensocial to use other websites information in mine. E.g. I want a feed from SEDO that lists the latest .com domains for sale. My members can add this feed to their own page and its looks like its native in my site.

Do the same thing with Gmail and Google calendar?

Use the calendar for all kinds of events in my site and let people subscribe for events that interest them, and post events to share in the community

Let the forum send stuff in to the mailbox and so on...

Since I'm not a developer I'm not sure these questions are really Drupal related but the core will be Drupal so I hope I will be forgiven ;)

Distributed authentication

Is there some way to re-implement D5's distributed authentication (http://drupal.org/node/312) in Drupal 6?

Multi site: best practise, performance and risks

I am going to develop several(sub sites and sites for other countries) websites for a company. It should be possible to add more domains for this company later. There is no content which needs to be shared except for logins (don't want to recreate users for all domains) Currently it has about 250k pageviews/month.
I found lots of information about several options how to set up multisite / domains for Drupal. But i can't find a 'best practise', with the lowest risks and a good performance for this situation. I want to use Drupal 6. Can somebody help me?

Setting content permission levels

I am thinking of using drupal to run a corporate site. Is there a way to set permission levels for content? The current site has 3 levels, normal access open to every one, pages available to paying members, and pages available to partners. Does Drupal offer a way to set this or is there a module for it? Or is this something that would have be done custom?
