I've spent the past week looking at platforms to use to create a small social network site with a forum attached to it. In the end, I opted for Dolphin, but it's just too much of a nightmare for me to try to install, let alone use and configure, having no PHP or server admin experience.
A simple question for you: Going to build a community where users can create profiles, blogs, post videos, view/comment other members videos and such things -
Is Drupal suited for this ??
Compared to Joomla or phpBB???
Or maybe integrated with phpBB perhaps???
The thing is, I'm actually a Java/JSP developer (> 9 years), but I'm really thinking of giving PHP a shot now. Any oppinions on using open source frameworks in PHP as a PHP beginner, or building it from scratch using my "mother tongue" - JAVA/JSP ???????
i jus got to know about Drupal yesterday.i have a small doubt about the organic groups module.
For example, i am a member of group A and would like to message a member in Group B, is that possible in Organic Groups.ANd it should be a private message. Also i would like to make use of mandatory organic groups, hence each user will be able to join only one group.
I am using Drupal 6.10
I am trying to setup a drupal multisite installation for sites examplex.com and exampley.com
However they always (obviously) resolve to internet. How can i correct this? An entry in the host file? if so, what exactly? I have tried the following entries:
127.0.0.1 localhost examplex.com exampley.com
AND
127.0.0.1/example examplex.com exampley.com
(in both cases, "example" is the directory where drupal tarball has been untarred)
I'm building a fitness site. So far with Wordpress, I've found plugins that lets me add avatars to my posts as well as my commenters, and add my stats (Like current weight, amount lifted, muscles worked that day, etc). But I also want to have a forum and some general pages and maybe even a store. I like Drupal because I can integrate everything easily and even do some more that I planned after a while. But I just figured out how to make a decent WP theme, so I'm not sure how easy it would be to move from WP to Drupal.
Hi everyone, i'm n00bie to drupal. I read the sticky and this cms looks amazing. But I am not sure if its best for the site I'd like to create. So I am looking for you 2 cents on this.
In a nutshell, I am creating a local website for free where people can go and search for local restaurants based on what they might wanna eat. So I will be entering all the data for the local restaurants, and categorizing them by food type. Thats it. Would you say drupal is to advanced for what i'm trying to accomplish.
