Help Getting started College Website

Hey Everyone,

Let me give you an idea on the most current situation:

I took over a server for the math and science department at the college that I work at. I have briefly used Drupal about a year ago and like the interface though I didn't get too involved in customization. The server is a Windows server that runs IIS and I am pretty much stuck with that. The website itself has not been touched in a few years I have made a couple small changes such as removing some people that no longer work there and such. It is just one static page and there are directories for all the faculty. The site can be viewed here: http://mathsci.solano.edu/ Most but not all the Faculty web directories just have a couple of files and no web page so most people are presented with a directory view. I have recently had a few of the Faculty ask me how to make a website they say that they know how to build a website but really they do not know how to code. Some of them are used to building website through tools like blogger and other website companies provide and that is really what they are looking for. Summer is coming up and should provide me with more time and would be a good time to get Drupal and all the other supporting software MySQL, PHP etc installed.

On to the Drupal Stuff:

I would like to do the following:

New To Drupal

can any one suggest me regarding this and also can any one provide me any sample urls of site which have been developed using drupal.

Rapidly Growing Site, do we drupalize?

I've got a professional site that is growing by leaps and bounds. Primarily it consists of a large vbulletin forum. Secondary to this is a growing magazine section that currently uses Wordpress to get the job done. Third are several other scripts that aren't necessarily integrated although I will eventually have them share the same user account database.

I'm presented with the challenge of integrating a content management system that will allow me with different profiling on a going forward basis. Having such a large vbulletin forum with over 100,000 posts makes me think that switching to drupal forums is not a good idea, for seo and practically. I don't find the drupal forums that much fun to use or as simple to view content, although it's certainly functional.

The question really is in one of merging vBulletin and creating the other items I need around it, e.g. a business directory, a jobs database and resume upload, a resources directory (currently part of vBulletin), and an area for contributors to write articles. I don't know how many of you are using the script but, for me, my users won't be blogging too much although they may. Picture galleries and videos will probably not be a large part of my site. Being able to expand profiles for other user definable categories might be useful.

Where find a guide

Hi, guys I wonder if it's possible to find a online guide about?
Paul Weinstock

Is there a Free hosted version of Drupal like WP's WordPress.com?

I do a lot of championing of Drupal, and a lot of people I talk to about Drupal are web admin noobs. So the biggest hurdle is a place where they can try out and learn Drupal without getting there own hosting and installation.

WordPress has places you can setup a free hosted WordPress blog and I was hoping to find something similar for Drupal. It looks like the site moobytes.com did something like this, but the site is down now.

Drupal 6 or 7

I am building a website for my company this fall. Should I start with Drupal 6 or Drupal 7?
Does anyone know the date planned for the release of Drupal 7?
