Move Wiki Contents to New Drupal Site

On my previous/current site, I have established a wiki so that employees of our firm could easily update content for the site.

I will greatly improve the implementation of this goal by moving to Drupal.

The question is, do I need some sort of wiki module or do I just show people how to add content and add links via the menu system?

I guess the downside of using pure drupal would be that I would need to teach people how to set up proper links?

Example: test

Having Drupal-doubts - please convince me

I'm a freelancing webdesigner that uses Wordpress as my favored CMS system. Most of my customers demands can be met with Wordpress.

I want to extend my skills in order to be able to take on bigger projects - basically I want to use Wordpress as the low-end and XX as the high-end CMS system.

I've heard good things about Drupal, and really want to give it a chance because of its reputation. Just to make it clear; I understand the following things:

 • It has a higher learning curve than most other CMS systems.
 • It requires a 'new way of thinking'.

Even though I realise that it takes time to learn, I'm repeatedly beaten down by facts that the most simple things takes a big effort. Tell me; Should i consider Drupal being a framework, rather than a CMS?

A hands on example:

I've installed Path and Path-auto and have set nice urls for my taxonomys, in order to use them as categories in my personal portfolio.

When I add the Taxonomy to my main (first) menu, it sure is displayed - but the url set for the < a >-link is the "ugly" URL, and not the nice one.

I realise that the Taxonomy.Menu-module probably will solve the "problem", but in my world you shouldn't need to install a module/plugin in order to fix a simple thing like that.

I need a threaded forum

I'm helping a friend with a project, and she's considering using Drupal. What she really needs for her purposes, though, is a threaded forum that threads like livejournal, so that each comment can be individually aimed at another person's comment, and they can all be expanded to be viewed at once. Are there any modules that are capable of doing this in Drupal? I looked at the Advanced Forum module and the Forum Thread module, but the first was complex enough that I wasn't sure, and the second didn't seem like it would expand the threads, merely show the titles.

using existing content-type as Taxonomy terms

hey. i want to be able to define a Vocabulary thats it's term are not pre defined, but in fact they are another content-type.
for example: i have an artist and an album content-types, i want that each album will be related to a vocabulary that it's term are all created artists.
thanks

As also a newbie, I am writing this to help shed some light on what to expect when you are just starting out. About Drupal, stop looking, it doesn’t get any better than this. I have been there; I have researched and tried scores of other open source CMSs. None provide a better combination of flexibility and documentation than Drupal. If you can’t learn how to use it a CMS, regardless of how good it is, it is useless. Drupal and other sources provide enough information to keep you busy for a least a week of steady study and there are numerous books written as well. You can expect to spend a month getting yourself well enough informed to feel comfortable. Though there is a considerable learning curse (as with all CMSs), Drupal has great flexibility with many modules available for add-ons. Also you can create your own modules, another learning curve. Or should I say learning curse. Starting out entails a lot of learning, if you are not willing to do that, pay someone to do it for you. There is a reason they offer that service.

Need Help - Databasing / User issue

Hey all,

I am not sure where to post to get help. I am not much of a coder. I am trying to create a site using drupal.

What I want to do:

I want to create a database of sound files. I want each user to be able to upload their own sound files. I want them all displayed in a table on one page and categorized by filetype, soundtype (drum, sound fx, bass, etc...) I also want each sample to have a rating of 1-5 stars (this is not necessary but would be nice). The important thing is I want the database setup so that there is a section for drums, and a section for drums that are of the wav file type. In other words I want it searchable with filters by both filetype and sound type. I also want the uploading users name to display in the table. Also on this page I want there to be an upload form so the user can upload the file right there. It is the users responsibility to put in the sound type, file type etc.

Is this something I am going to have to code myself or is this something I can achieve with a combination of currently available modules? I just finished going through the module list and getting the ones I thought would help get me in the right direction. So please if you know which combination of modules would allow me to do something remotely similar to this let me know. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks much,
Eusid
