Help, choosing a knowledge management system

Hello,

I have been charged with converting my companies old media wiki system into a CMS system. Our IT department have supplied Drupal, CMSmadeeasy and typo3. My knowledge is limited but from playing around, looking at sites and using some Drupal books, Drupal seems the system that we would most likely use. I need to make sure it fulfills the following requirements, some I am sure it does and others I am not so sure of so was wondering if anyone would be able to give me a guiding hand.

The key questions I need help on are;

* Is it simple to create pages and link from one subject to another? We often breakdown parts of the processes that our company performs into seperate pages so that is not too much information on each page. This is simple on Mediawiki, is it the same on Drupal?
* Is it possible to have drop down menus? It seems nicemenus would be able to perform this?
* On the home page we also want to have a "box" containing tabs for each department, when a tab is selected it shoes links relevant for that department, is this possible?
* Easy to manage the layout and management of the documented processes?

Is drupal a good cms to do what i want ?

Hello,

I'm new to drupal. I installed the drupal 7 alpha 6 to do some test, aware that's an alpha.
What I want to do is a showcase website to sell my (future) product, with a community (forum, and maybe an extranet).
I think drupal is a good choice (maybe not ?), but I'm stuck on a "how to do this".

Drupal and web standards

Hi all.

I'm wondering about investing some time into learning Drupal.
Before I start, there's something I'd like to know.

Will drupal let me develop with the doctype of my choice?

I've got a preference for developing in HTML4.01, and I'm going to start developing in HTML5 at some point.

It seems that most CMS's will force me to stick to an XHTML doctype, which I prefer not to use.

How flexible is Drupal in this case?

Thanks.

Long question, short answer: Designer looking to learn a CMS.

hi all,

I have been a professional print designer for 7 years and just recently I decided that I need to expand my skills into the world wide web. In the past I used to work for an ISP and did very simple web design (html, tiny bits of java) but as print has paid the bills I've let technology pass me by. Drupal appeals to me because of the community and it's seemingly endless possibilities but what worries me is the amount of know-how that seems to be required. I am tech-savvy, but outside of installing Word Press on a server a couple times, I have not messed with the capabilities of a CMS. In the next couple years I am looking to start a design firm and I realize the bulk of the money I am going to be making will be from the web. I will probably end up hiring contract workers in the future to help out with projects but I feel I should learn as much as I can to be as profitable as possible. I know this is such a broad question but do you think Drupal is the correct path to take? Should I shore up my html/css skills before I even remotely consider a CMS? Do you know any designers that are also developers? (that are good designers, that is) I don't want to obsess so much about a CMS that I lose sight of my actual (and loved) profession.
