Conversion of vBulletin/Mediawiki site to Drupal

I'm currently running a vBulletin powered site, with a Mediawiki database bridge for the wiki. You can see the site in operation http://www.gaminglove.net/

I've been growing increasingly frustrated with both of these platforms, and have tried to use a premium vBulletin wiki plugin to have the wiki be a much more integrated part of the site than it currently is.

That of course, proved to be a mess, with the import not functioning correctly, crucially, it killed every single essential template being used on the wiki, so for the moment, it's installed, but not being used.

I also own a vBulletin 4 powered site (including the "CMS"), but the vB 4 branch is a joke, the CMS is lacking crucial functionality that I want, and vB4 styling woes are relatively well known by people interested in forum software.

With the release of Drupal 7 looming, I want to look back into rebuilding the site. That, of course, comes with a few crucial caveats:

I need a good forum, average posts per day on the site are relatively low, but I need good admin controls. I'm not entirely convinced that AF in it's current implementation is a suitable alternative.

Need help on building Administration pages

Hi guys,

I started learning Drupal, as well as PHP programming, a couple days ago. What I need to build is a website called "Administration", let say I have a set of tables that define what a Game Player looks like, such as: name, description, XP, money... I need to build some pages to manage those data of player.

image 'rotation' behind header and menu links?

Im looking for something that can switch out photos *behind* the header logo and menu tabs if so. Ideally it would be dynamic (time and or clickers), and would have option *most important* to be able to pull from a different source depending on which page/* one is on.

can anyone recommend something? cant really find anything for what i need actually. its just going to be actual photographs that make up the header background.

thanks!!

Active menu item

I'm planning to make my first site with Drupal. I'm creating custom theme for it, but how can I do the menu like it is on this site (drupal.org)? If you are on the "Drupal Homepage" page it colors the menu item background to white and if you are not it stays blue.
Maybe I should check the url of the page and then choose the right CSS class?

Please help me. (Sorry if the thread is in the wrong forum.)

What's the deal with WYSIWYG editor?

Hi guys,

I'm not new to web design / development and CMS packages per se, but very new to Drupal. My interest in Drupal has been growing over the last year because I've heard good things about the community and also because it's going to include custom fields by default in version 7, which nowadays is probably essential to any good dynamic web project. Of course let alone that it's now a pretty mature and well supported product.

However I have a very simple question that is probably turning into a crucial point in choosing Drupal for any future projects and this question has to do with the text editor.

I guess we all know the editor is one of the most important things for a client (aka the non technical person that wants a simple to use back end that looks like Word!). I guess this is the reason most packages I've used come with a WYSIWYG editor out of the box. The Word Press TinyMCE is great in my opinion. It's all integrated and now really mature.

Why hasn't Drupal made a similar choice? I know someone will say that there is a module that can be installed and that ANY editor can then be used, but why should the user make the choice, why should I be exposed to bugs and potential incompatibilities if I don't have experience? Why should I even sit there trying to understand which editor works best with the addon?

Durpal objectives. Can Drupal do this sort of thing for me?

Hi,

I have been looking into Drupal for some time now. Now I find I have a few small objectives to fulfill and wonder if the community can help me through what is a monster OS Project.

1) I hope to use Drupal to email my clients for a unique review of a product which they have purchased. I imagine this would be through hyperlink in an email to a unique node with a review form on it.

2) Each review is a one time review.
