Drupal appropriate for staffing and recruiting site

We're looking for a solution for building a staffing, recruiting, and job posting site for a niche industry, and were turned on to Drupal. Does Drupal have any extensions or add-ons that would help with the development of such a site? We have two programmers and neither of us has Drupal experience, but we do have experience with some open source shopping cart programs (oscommerce and Magento) as well as with WordPress.

New to Drupal - question about installation and Drupal capabilities

I have two questions regarding Drupal versions 6 or 7 (I am using the Snow Leopard OS on Mac):

1) I am new to Drupal and wanted to practice building sites. Is it possible to install Drupal locally on my Mac?

2) Should I assume that with Drupal, it is possible to create a website that has the capabilities of most any other website? Specifically, I would like to create a website where users can create accounts and login to post or update information.

Thanks.

Drupal is CRAP!!

Before you start using this CMS, BEWARE!!!!

I'm a very experienced web designer and this CMS will drive your crazy. I suggest to stay away from Drupal all together. Very snobbish support and you will be wasting a ton of time trying to figure out what has gone wrong when in actuality, there is nothing wrong. I could have built 10 perfectly functioning websites buy now versus using Drupal. WordPress is a much better CMS to work with and friendly support. Just saying and speaking from someone that has been building websites since the mid 90's.

Can web controls such as TreeView be extended/customized with Drupal?

I know virtually nothing about Drupal, but I did read that it has some development capability. I am about to start on an ASP.NET project in which I need to extend/customize a TreeView control as well as other simpler controls. Is it possible to do this easily with Drupal, instead? If it takes a professional capability to do the job well, its probably not a good idea to embark on it, but I need to decide now rather than take a week to research it.

If so, is Eclipse the IDE of choice for such work?

Web App - Private Messaging

Hi guys,

I've asked the same question over at Stack Overflow but wanted to ask here too.

I'm just starting a project and wonder whether Drupal might fit the bill or whether it would be better building off of another framework such as CodeIgniter / Yii etc. I know Drupal isn't a framework as such but it does tick a lot of boxes.

The web app will have private messaging at it's core but it will also include:

Getting started with Drupal books

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good book to start learning Drupal? I've previously used Textpattern CMS and (to a lesser extent) Expression Engine so CMS design is not totally alien to me.

Cheers,
Phil
