i have a collections of quotes which i want to put online. i just want a simple layout where users can browse by authors and categories. can i use drupal for such a site?

What is the best drupal version? i mean like in desktop applications many times a more stable version is an old version is the same in web? it's an old drupal version more stable than the newest?
After months of scratching my head and attempting to deal with Dreamweaver I have been reluable informed to choose a CMS. After looking around Drupal seems to be held in the highest esteem (after all it is good enough for the Whitehouse! :)
The site I am building comprises around 1,000 images and is going to be a website devoted to art. It will also contain payment buttons integrating the Paypal payment system.
What is the way to go? Is Drupal the answer to a commercial website with such a large inventory or another CMS such as Magento?
