I can't get past Drupal's 'Supply your info' page. Ftp credentials fail. Web host claims they're valid. Any ideas?

So I have a "Select" field in my node/add/ page and I want it to be bigger because you cannot see the selections very well. Something simple like width:1000px;

How can I edit the CSS of these node edit pages. I have my own custom theme and have looked around but can't find exactly how to do it in my circumstances.

I was told that Ubercart Affiliate can work in this way, but my developer now says that it cannot. I am not locked in to Ubercart- I can use any ecommerce/affiliate package.

Advice needed on redesign of portfolio: is what I want doable with Drupal?... I've got a few "wishes"......
