Tell me about XAAMP

Wassup everyone out there. Its Jay again w/ another question. U need someone to tell me about XAAMP. I was referred to this program by someone on this forum. Individual said that if I had the time that I can setup my own server. I looked up this program and it said that it is a program w/ an interface for apache web server including PHP, Perl, FTPD, and probably some other programs. Now the site I went to said that you can be running Windows XP which is what I have right now. I said to myself "get out off here". Its seems to good to be true. Setting up a server @ low cost like this.

Several Web Projects... Drupal vs Joomla vs A Custom CMS

Hi,
I haven't used Drupal in a long time, have used many CMSs since, have learnt PHP/MySQL and created my own custom CMSs.

I'm now setting up a web development business, and have several projects in mind. My initial thoughts were to create my own CMS for the job, but my last CMS took me about 6-8 months to complete (working alone), and I'd rather have my site up sooner than later.

For this reason I am looking at using Drupal or Joomla again (never used Joomla before, but I used Mambo which I understand Joomla essentially is). I need convincing as to which CMS to use for my projects. I also plan to commit and contribute to my chosen CMS in the long run, as I wouldn't have learnt PHP/MySQL if it wasn't for open source projects like this and I'd like to give something back.

I will need to do some "username" URLs. e.g. username.mysite.com or mysite.com/username.
Apart from doing a mod_rewrite for it, can Drupal handle this without me having to "hack" core files?

I was looking through the showcase, and I got the impression that URLs are completely free, so you aren't tied to a specific URL structure (e.g. mysite.com/action/). Is this correct?

TV Producer / Beginner Needs to Know a few things before venturing into the wild!

I am a TV producer and I am looking to build a site that our viewers can join, build profiles and make requests to our show and a few other things like a forum etc. subscribe to an rss feed, edit the rss weekly for airing schedule etc...

It would also be nice if they could upload video's they produce, attach them to their profiles, for considerations by our producers. Similar to America's funniest home video's, a viewer voting system would be fantastic and most recently added, most watched, most liked and most hated type of rotation could happen on our main TV show page...

I understand many aspects of web sites and streaming video, inserting code, css, I know a bit about appache and my sql, I do not know much PHP other than a few very basic things. I do know how to configure those things all together and get some echoing going on the some basic strings like name, date, versions etc... if I have refference texts I can do a bit more. I can't however build my own code... I do not know enough of php to do that. I'm not affraid to learn just a bit limited in time, as the TV show takes allot of my time...

I am hoping that Drupal can save some time in the starting points of this site... first user memberships, second video uploads to our producers, third a member commenting / voting system... fourth a forum...

My main question is this...

cron,data base and comments

Hi everyone,

I would like to resolve 3 questions :

1. Someone know a module to automatice the task of having the search box always 100% index?

2. A module to have another database within one MySQL data base with 'xxx_' prefix?

3. A module to know from which web browser the users makes the comments?

Thanks.aitiba

Can Drupal support a YouTube type layout? I cannot find ANY info. on this??

Hello all,

I am very new to Drupal and have a question.

What I would like to do is setup a homepage where by I can either upload videos or link from Youtube and have registered users use a rating scale to rate the videos. Would also like registered users to provide feedback below, I guess very similar to YouTube's layout.

Can Drupal do this? And if so, what module(s) can accomplish this???

I have read and searched and have not found what the correct terminology is for what I'm trying to establish.

Thanks.
