Before you start

I am completely new to drupal as of today. I had heard of it before but never looked into the technology of it until a few hours ago so there is still quite a bit of a learning curve for me.

I'm a tad bit new with Drupal, so i'm trying to figure out if what i want to do is possible with it.

I'm currently working for a charity and we are trying to reduce our stationary costs!

We have a core list of items that we have discounts on from the supplier but people are lazy and just order pens, notepads and general stationary which aren't not on the core list which starts to add up and chew into our funds!

So i was thinking of creating a internal site which will allow people to click and purchase items that are only on the core list that they need.
A email would then be sent out to our receptionist, telling her that these people need certain items which she would then order.

That is the barebones, simple version of my idea if you have any suggestions to the idea then please let me know!

However, if it's possible i was thinking about doing a range of things with this system.

Placing a budget on different departments!

So they won't be able to spend more than they are allocated for that month.

Track Spending

So we would be able to see which department spends the most, what and when they ordered.

I was also thinking of more of an automated way such as

People click on the item they want and the amount.

i am evaluating some cms. I am wondering, if drupal is able to provide a feature, which allows each user to add a music file to his/her own profile. The music should then be played, when someone visits the user profile.

I didn't found such a media-module...

i have added the uieforums and now i need to get rid of the old forums or at least prevent the search (drupal search and search engines) from crawling them
any idea?

I am excited and interested in Drupal, but of course there are questions...

Can I use drupal to manage users only? I wish to use it in such away that it protects certain static pages only.

I a currently running a joomla installation but I am growing tired of it and all the problems it causes.
I was thinking of giving drupal a shot.

Here is basically what I need:
1. make a section where I can put my video tutorials
2. a forum

I am currently using fireboard (formerly joomlaboard) for the forum but it is also very unstable.
