Sometimes we're not blessed with being able to choose the server or the OS when spec'ing a new site. Other than turning away the project, how can you get Drupal to work well in Windows/IIS?
Here are a few specific questions:
1) what are best practices for a Windows/IIS installation? Can we aggregate documentation for downloading and installing PHP and MySQL and expand on the handbook (http://drupal.org/node/92589)?
Can you play around with Drupal without installing it on a webserver? For Instance can I create my site and then upload it to a webserver with a database?
I know this is a common question, but it seems that everyone needs some input for their own site. Anyway, I was wondering about using Drupal if:
1. My website is only regional non-profit type with not much traffic. Yet, I need to implement several things like: a forum, event calendar, signup for events to know how many plan to come, polls, countdown to events, mail letters to users that opt-in for announcements like events and special news.
From all my searching on this forum, it would seem that some changes are necessary to the php.ini file. My web hosting company is asking what the consequences are of not making these changes because of some problems with setting up e-mails which require the PHP defaults to remain unaltered. So, at the moment my php.ini is still at the default settings.
