Run 5 websites using one Drupal interface

Hi,

Is it possible to Run 5 websites with different domain names using one Drupal interface and one database behind it?

any resource would be helpful.

Thanks in advance

Where to Start.

Hello
Someone just recommended Drupal to me, and it seems like the way to go for my new site. I am somewhat good with computers, I have built a website, using NVU, but now I need something really good. I don't really know what to download, or how to install it. I tried to download Drupal earlier and something else appeared, and i couldn't really do anything with it, expect "Export"

Should I not even bother, is it that complicated to set up and use?? I am a quick learner, and I am thinking i will be able to figure it out, but I can't even figure out how to set up!

User login control

I've been asked to create a portal site and am looking at Drupal as a possible way of building it. I've been requested to control user access thusly: a company is given a password. To create a new user, a person must first log in with their email address and company password. The system checks the company password against their email domain (that is, if they are from Microsoft the domain needs to be microsoft.com). Then the person may create their own user and password which they can use from then on to get into the site.

Authors and Newspapers

I'm editing a small newspaper, and we're currently setting up online. I am quite keen on drupal, but have heard that you can't enter the name of the author without them being registered as a user. This would be totally unsuitable for us, as there are several one-off contributors who I would like to be able to simply upload the work of. Ideally there would be an author field which I could link back to all other articles by that person. Is this something that can be done, and how? Does anyone know of other publications who have solved this problem and use drupal?

Subdomains, Structuring and Planning ahead

so far I have been working on my localhost, so everything is appearing fast and smooth. But it could all be totally different when I put it all online and thousands of users join in. Therefore I need to plan ahead and get the structuring right from the start.

The website will be a Social Network with hundreds of groups and tens of thousands of users and maybe more as time goes by (very similar to LiveJournal, but with a lot more features). Users will be able to have their own blogs and static pages (like in Wordpress), and also post other content types (so there will be a lot of data flowing around -- mostly text, but nevertheless).

I want the new Users and new Groups to automatically get their own subdomains username.domain.com upon registration (just like in Wordpress and LiveJournal) -- I would REALLY appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction as to how to set this up (on localhost Wamp5 to start with), ...because I've been bashing my head against this one for few weeks now.
