Featured forum posts option

I was wondering if there could be a use for a featured thread option for the forum module? This would allow admins to select featured threads they wish to show on the front page along with the "new forum topics".

Thank you Drupal!

I wasn't sure where to post, but I just wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone who has helped create Drupal. I only stumbled on it a few months ago, but I used it to revamp my personal site with one goal in mind - something that would be easy to update, and in particular something I could use to share the arrival of our new baby with friends and family.

And you've made it all possible.

Posting images and stories by email, updating the site from anywhere (even a hospital room!), making it easy for comments, categories, news feeds...

Drupal docs, more complicated than necessary?

Hi everybody,

I'm a new user of Drupal and am very impressed by its power and flexibility, right now I'm creating a newspaper website and Drupal seems to offer everything I need. I come from using Movable Type which I think is a nice piece of software but not suited for what I want to do with this project.

Reading the Drpl documentation however, confuses me most of the time I find that I learn more by doing hands-on work on the system than trying to find the help I need in the hand books. Take for example the taxonomy module, a powerful concept with few examples on how to actually use it in the real world. It seems to me that the docs make it more complicated of what it already is.

As a user, I don't really care about the designing theory implications of the taxonomy module as interesting as this may be. As a user I want to learn how to divide my site into categories and that's it, if I want to dig deeper into the usage of a module, I have time to, trying to put together a production website is not really the moment to do that, though.

So I guess my request to the nice people who produce the documents is: try to put things into simple terms, try to give a lot of everyday examples. Remember, the handbook is the resource that a lot of newbies are going to use when they start with Drupal, and right now it can be a daunting thing for a beginner.

I really luv Drupal, thanks guys.

Module for configurable form content submission?

Hi all. Brand new to Drupal here, working on moving my site over from a Mambo installation. I'm not really a programmer though.

I have a funding database. I would like users to be able to submit grants/ competitions etc. using a form that I could configure to my needs. The grant etc. would wait for approval before being posted on the site. Ideally those who submitted the grant would also be able to edit it later (to change a due date for instance).

Is there a module that would accomplish this?

Thanks,

Cheryl

Putting Pictures on Pages, Blogs, etc.

I originally wrote this message as a reply to this topic: http://drupal.org/node/61569 but decided it should have it's own thread.
I've struggle with trying to find a good way to put pictures on pages. I probably don't know the best way, but have come up with a way that works. Here is an example http://winterssewing.com/drupal/?q=node/159 of a page with pictures. Although it is not in a blog, it would work the same. The pictures are inserted via FckEditor. I don't know of an "easy way" to put the pictures in, but this is how I do it. This assumes that you already have your pictures uploaded and available somewhere on the website. (I have my in Gallery2 on the website)
Have 2 Browser windows open, one browser window is open to the picture you want, the other window is the content page(blog, book, etc), in "edit" mode.
(I don't have much time right now, but am doing this mostly from memory, so bear with me if I leave something out.

In your browser window containing the picture, right on the picture. From the pop up menu, click on "properties". From the property box, highlight and copy (ctrl+C) the entire URL of the picture.
Going to the Browser window with the page (blog, page, etc.), click in the editing window where you want the picture. Now click on the "Insert/Edit Image" icon in the FckEditor menu bar. From the popup "Image Properties" window paste (ctrl+V) the URL of the picture into the URL line. You can also enter some Alternative text, such as a label (which doesn't seem to show anywhere), about what the picture is. Enter the size you want the picture to be in the Width and Height boxes. This will depend upon how big original is on the other website (leave blank to just have the picture be the same size as in the gallery. To have the picture be smaller, enter the size. For instance, the pictures on this page: http://winterssewing.com/drupal/?q=node/159 range from 200 X 150 to 400 X 300.
