The Design of a CMS aka What Drupal 7 should be

I've only used Drupal for 2 months, but I've found my way around, read through the entire API, the docs, and can (with some exaggeration) say that I can do most of the things that Drupal has to offer. I'm new to Drupal, but I've had much experience with other CMSes such as Wordpress, SilverStripe, and ModXCms before. Before I start, this isn't another one of those "I hate Drupal" posts. In fact, I love Drupal, I think that it is awesome. But it definitely has room for improvement, and I will attempt to cover my specific points here. Basically, I'll try to cover the way I think Drupal should be.

Hope you can help me

Drupal 7 features

Where to find new feature list for upcoming drupal 7? Is there such a thing on one place?

Thanks for answer.

Shopping site

I want to have a Drupal site where company's can registered and build there own classified shopping cart (e-commerce site) with company profile.

The main site should be comparing products similar to a price comparison site and admin should be able to feature products, reviews, company's and user.

Users should be able to rate and comment about there experience with company's and products and write reviews about products..

Suppressing mail messages with hook_mail_alter?

I recently encountered a situation where we needed to suppress automated system welcome / activation messages for users who signed up and were assigned a specific role. I tried using hook_mail_alter to intercept those messages and perhaps kill them by unsetting all of the to/from/header/body/subject parameters, but without effect; even after unsetting the to:address, the messages were going through to their designated recipient. Module weight didn't seem to affect this behavior.

Upgrading from 6.x to 6.9, I cannot login anymore, cuase the site is offline: how to login?

Hi all,

I have probably stumbled upon one of the stupidest things that can happen.
I started update late December 2008, got interrupted and resumed today.

However, As I was not logged on any more, after the update, I am unable to set the maintenance mode to off.
I simply cannot logon, because the site insists it is offline.

1. I did a search on the main directory and found the function drupal_site_offline() was called.
2. So I grepped for this function, but alas, I cannot find it.
