Drupal 7.0 RC 3 Released

Release candidateUpdate: Drupal 7.0 Release Candidate 4 is available now!

We are proud to present to you the third (and likely final) release candidate of Drupal 7.0. Big news since last time!

  1. We're back down to 0 critical issues again!
  2. We've announced a January 5 release date for Drupal 7!
  3. There are release parties being thrown worldwide on January 7. Please set one up in your town! (tips)

So. It's officially GO time for final testing! Something to keep you busy over the holidays. :)

Since the last release candidate two weeks ago, we have fixed numerous bugs, improved the AJAX framework, field UI etc. Also alternate database systems have seen serious improvement thanks to http://ci.drupal.org/. PostgreSQL 9.0 now installs without errors, and we have 100% tests passing on SQLite! And files[] is no longer required in .info files for each file! Only if the file in question registers a class or interface. $cruft--;

For the full list of changes, see the release notes.

The first alpha announcement provided a comprehensive list of high level improvements made since Drupal 6.x, so in this announcement we'll concentrate on how you can help ensure that Drupal 7 is released as soon as possible and is as rock solid as the previous Drupal releases that you've grown to love!

There are a number of modules already ported to Drupal 7 for your testing pleasure. You can keep tabs on whether or not your site is ready for Drupal 7 by using the Upgrade Status module. If you are a translator, now is the time to start working on your translations. If you are a module or theme maintainer, now is the time to start working on the update to Drupal 7! Read on for more details.

Basic Post-Install Configuration of Drupal 7

I haven't been able to locate a guide or tutorial about the basics of what you should do after installing Drupal 7. I have a few Drupal 7 books but some of their content is confusing as they were written prior to the finalization of Drupal 7 and not everything they describe exists (!).

So, a few questions.

For basic cleanliness of one's site, and SEO purposes, is pathauto 7.x-1.0-alpha2 and Page Title 7.x-2.4-beta1 ready for a production site? If not, is there a more stable way to do what pathauto attempts to do? I could not find *any* guides for Drupal 7 & SEO.

How does one go about inserting their own logo into the default Drupal theme?

This whole Taxanomy question has me a bit confused... I don't fully have a grasp of it yet. What is the best way to arrange a vocabulary when all of your sites content is very connected/related taxonomically speaking and you essentially want to label everything like a "tag" so you can combine those tags in novel ways. Is there an advantage to factoring one's taxanomies?

My site has a lot of static content that will be accessed through several layers of menus. The less layers the better. I know I need to figure this out but any hints on how to strike the right balance of having as few menus as possible yet displaying as much as possible at once that will allow the user to conveniently find what they want?

Experienced Drupal Developer for 30-40hrs per week

We are an exclusively-Drupal web development company in the business for 9 years. With a team of 10 developers and project managers, we can handle most projects that come our way. Our clients are across the continent and our hand-picked team of developers span six time zones. We love making beautiful sites that make client's lives more joyful.

We have a large contract that needs a dedicated person doing advanced Drupal coding. The project is based in Drupal and has custom modules developed to create an amazing dashboard. This project is already nearing beta for our client, so mainly you will focus on feature additions and refining. From a Drupal perspective, this project involves:
> Advanced CCK (Multi-level node references, etc.)
> Flex to Javascript to AJAX loaded Nodes
> Google Maps and Charts and Visualization Charts
> Advanced calculations and performance optimized queries
> Integration with 3rd-party data sources: push and pull

This project has been in progress for nine months so far and is likely to be ongoing (no end date in sight at this point - may be converted to a permanent salaried position if desired).

Ideally, the more hours available per week the better, however we may split it up between a few developers so part-time is possible as well.

We have fun, are flexible with hours, and have an awesome client for this project!

Panels tabs showing for all users at content edit

Not sure if I should list this here or as a bug for the Panels module, as I'm not sure if it us a bug or if I am just doing something wrong. None the less, when my users view their content, they see two additional panels tabs, that they shouldn't see. I double checked and they do not have permissions to Panels, so not sure why they are seeing these tabs. Note, I did some searching and saw this was an issue with previous versions of Panels, but looked like it was fixed for D6. I'm experiencing the issue with D7 though. Any insights or tips anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

Created a "View" with a User ID argument, now how do I create a link or menu to get the user to this view?

OK, I feel like I must be overlooking something very obvious, but I created a view that filters nodes by type and then limits them to the user via an argument using the UserID. The view works great if I type the URL into the browser. However, since I cannot create a menu with a "%" in the path, I'm not sure how to get my users to this page. I tried to create a new page via panels and load the view into the content panel, but nothing loads.

attaching multiple files to an article/page

Hi,

I am looking for a way to attach multiple files to an article/page in one go.

I can add a file field to an article with an "unlimited" number of files, but that requires me to upload them one by one.

Is there a way in Drupal 7 to do this more easily?

Thanks,

Hans
