Drupal 6.x

I just logged into my admin for the first time in a year and discovered that there were a long list of upgrades for each module and can I just install the latest one or do I have to do them all?

- we start in a page that renders normally eg. www.domain.com/category/
- however, all these URLs - that shouldn't actually exist, and should return 404 - render the exact same page:
----- www.domain.com/category/category/
----- www.domain.com/category/category/category/
----- www.domain.com/category/whatever-you-like/free-text

Is there a native way to auto-generate some node titles for a specific content type?

Example:
Content type - content1

Generate incremented titles for content1 such as a1-a500, b1-b500, or a1a-a1h, so that the nodes are created with those titles for content type content1.
