Installing Drupal

I am attempting to install Drupal 7 on Red Hat Linux 5.6. I get the message:

Drupal requires you to enable the PHP extensions in the following list (see the system requirements page for more information):
•gd

My php configure statement is:

./configure --with-apxs2=/usr/sbin/apxs --with-mysql=shared --with-gd=shared

I have the line "extension=php_gd2.pll" in /etc/php.ini and the line "extension=gd.so" in /etc/php.d/php.ini

I have restarted apache and confirmed that the php-gd package is installed on my server.

sometimes my site is giving "Page Not Found" or 500 Internal Server Error
what's the problem ?
how to solve this ?

My site has the Fatal error: Allowed memory size of X bytes exhausted (tried to allocate Y bytes)... I can't fix it.

However, it does not seems to affect the user. I can still enter in containers and forums manually by typing in the address bar .../admin/structure/forum/add/forum

These are the list that I remember at the top of my head

.../admin/structure/forum/add/forum
.../admin/structure/forum/add/container
.../admin/structure/forum/settings

Does anyone remember the rest? Such has the command to remove a forum or container?

What does this mean and how do I fix it?

I never had a problem with lag before but after installing drupal. My site lags like crazy!!!

Executed 67 queries in 10321.71 milliseconds. Come on NOW. Thats crazy! How can I improve speed? I am also hosted on hostgator if is that a problem.
