Installing Drupal

It worked and I had several test sites I was practicing with but today Quickstart quit working. I re-installed everything. No improvement: the drush create command makes empty website folders -- nothing inside the folders (/websites/"mysite.dev" contains nothing).

I removed every last file and directory from the drive I am using. I searched for stray files and eliminated everything I could find. (It is a new drive and I removed all files from it --it's MT)

I'm using xampp to install drupal on my computer. I'm getting this error message:

Failed to connect to your database server. The server reports the following message: SQLSTATE[28000] [1045] Access denied for user 'my_username'@'localhost' (using password: YES).

I've done an exhaustive search trying to get past this. These are the suggestions I found. I've tried changing localhost to 127.0.0.1 I've tried installing a new database and user Neither of these are working.

I have a new installation of drupal, I did have an installation problem or two and at one stage copied the distribution back over the installed copy, and my hosting provider had to recover cgi-bin

I now appear to have a site running, although I have not yet addressed configuration file protection.

When I try to change from Blue Lagoon to Greenbeam I can only see the text.

appearance/settings/Color scheme any scheme other than Blue Lagoon does not work for me. When I save configuration the users see only text without the css

I'm new to this site creation and have never created an local server before. I have created an local server with XAMPP. I have done everything right and are up and runing with Drupal. There is still something I dont understand. In the manual I'm asked to do this: "Secure your site

After the installation is complete, you will want to change the permissions on the settings.php file back so that it is protected:

chmod u=rw,o=r,a=r sites/default/settings.php OR chmod 644 sites/default/settings.php

Can you suggest me ANYTHING.
