Installing Drupal

I was wondering what peoples' opinion is regarding installing/testing Drupal sites in a VM environment or on a stand alone Ubuntu partition. I recently installed a VM and noticed it's a little sluggish. Thanks.

When I finished drupal8 alpha4, I cannot click nothing. Everywhere I click,drupal told me"Not Found

The requested URL /admin/structure was not found on this server." Why?

Is it Ok a share server or a vps?

during installation at the 'configure site' after completed all fields, displayed the following massage

Fatal error: Call to undefined function field_attach_load() in C:\xampp\htdocs\site1\includes\entity.inc on line 316

have anybody an idea what i have to do?

I am setting up a Drupal server on 12.04 LTS. I installed 7 as per:[https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Drupal]. In looking at the documentation mentioned and at [https://drupal.org/documentation/install/] I have come to a couple of questions.
