Drupal on Lycos, anyone?

Hello there,

has anyone so far tried installing Drupal on a freewebspace account like Tripod or Lycos? I've done it, but can't get rid of the following error message at the end of each page:

warning: MySQL: A link to the server could not be established in /data/members/free/tripod/de/a/f/a/afawk/htdocs/includes/database.mysql.inc on line 46.

Anyone had this before or has any idea how I could get rid of it?

Installation Trouble

Hi

I just installed drupal and on running it for the first time get the following error:
"Parse error: parse error, unexpected $ in /var/www/html/drupal/modules/user.module on line 1981"

I read that the problem might be with a blank line, but its not the case.
[root@max modules]# tail -1 user.module
?>
[root@max modules]# wc -l user.module
1980 user.module

I'm not too familiar with php so can someone give me any hints as to whats happening.

Thanks.
Max

Mailhandler

I wrote the following before and someone else seemed to be having problems. Now I have mailhandler working on my local host but at my web host I can't get it working. The strange thing now is that I get a "site not found" error when I try to retrieve mail.

Installation trouble: Headers Already Sent ... help!

Help me I really want to install drupal, but I keep getting this error, even before logging in and I have no idea what is wrong.

meta-moderation?

On moderation, the docs say this:

Anyone with a user account will be able to moderate comments. This lets people assign a score to a comment on how good they think the comment is or how visible they think it should be.

Do you really mean anyone? Or is there a way, as the site administrator, to tweak that? This is the 'who moderates the moderators' question? If the flamers and trolls are themselves abusing the moderation system, is there a way to stop that?
