Installing Drupal

Using Php4.0.3 on Debian Woody and Postgresql 7.2.1 (default encoding is UNICODE). Also using Drupal 4.1. RC1.

After posting a comment to a story with the following in the Comment field:
'Dette er "Release Candidate 1", s

I have just installed drupal, following the installation instructions as best I can. As with most CMS solutions e.g. phpnuke/postnuke/mambo/phpwebsite there are glitches.

I can access index.php - the result is a login box, title graphic and home page link (nothing else). But when I try and access admin.php (as per instructions) I get the following statement:

You are not authorized to access to this page.

I have searched through the forum and documentation and have been unable to come up with a remedy.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Wnen I log on as administrator I see some icons (pinnep note) but as an anonymous user I do not.

What are they? What do the mean?

I am looking for software that will allow me to put entries such as site news into the middle of my portal. I have looked at pmachine but Drupal seems to have more functionality. Would it be possible to use Drupal to create news blogs and to feed rss news to my phpbb portal. Can the calendar feature be used on the portal. I am not looking for my members to log into Drupal, just my site admins to update the blogs. Sorry for asking so many questions, I am new to blogging. My site:

i am not hosting a server so can i upload drupal to another php4 server? i am using windows 95.
