I get a 500 internal server error at a new site which is a fresh 7.34 ftp install. I haven't even run the install script yet.
My other site running earlier versions (7.24) versions of Drupal are working. Same server, same folder. I tried the suggested edits on the .htaccess file, even cut and paste the 7.24 .htaccess code into th 7.24 .htaccess. The old sites keep running and the new one is a 500.
I'm at a loss as what to do next. Gonna sleep now. Hopefully someone has a suggestion in the morning. Thanks!
I have made a complete mess of an upgrade by getting myself locked out. I put old system into maintenance mode but logged out before doing the upgrade of all the modules. When I found myself unable to log in, even using the ?q=user advice from this forum, I decided that I would in desperation delete the database and start again.
I deleted database and created a new empty database; I ran the install script and went through the usual setup questions until it gave me 'congratulations install successful; visit your front page'
Installing Drupal 8 on a LAMP stack... 404 not found, alternate installation instructions?

I installed a LAMP stack, and followed instructions on how to install Drupal 8, but the page is 404 ing, there is either a problem with the steps, how I followed them, and I am open to alternate instructions.
I am new to developing a drupal site, and to programming in general, however I have watched and re-watched Lynda.com's videos on Drupal 7, and I feel that would very much like to use and run a Drupal site.
Hello, I followed the seemingly simple directions at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsPc_Tb8bI8, yet my site returns 404 not found... The requested URL /drupal/ was not found on this server... I may have slipped up in creating and configuring my databases, but I though I figured out how to fix it. Alas localhost for drupal won't load. I'm so close...
