Support for Drupal 7 is ending on 5 January 2025—it’s time to migrate to Drupal 10! Learn about the many benefits of Drupal 10 and find migration tools in our resource center.
I've been trying to use update manager to update various modules. The updates are identified, but the actual update of whichever I select never begins, the progress meter stays at the start with Preparing to update below it.
This did work for me in beta. I moved to a vps and rc2 simultaneously. Is there a specific system requirement for this to work that I may have missing? The installation and status report flagged nothing.

j. ayen green CreditAttribution: j. ayen green commentedChanging issue title because with RC3 the update process doesn't stop at Preparing to update, but it does result in this:
Archivers can only operate on local files
when I try to install a recommended module update.
j. ayen green CreditAttribution: j. ayen green commentedAdding a post script. I did a clean install of RC3 to make sure. Back to not getting beyond Preparing to update. Can't cause #1 to happen again.

EvanDonovan CreditAttribution: EvanDonovan commentedCan you post the contents of phpinfo()? This sounds like a PHP restriction, or some other environmental setting.

EvanDonovan CreditAttribution: EvanDonovan commentedChanging status back so hopefully someone with more knowledge can debug.
wernercd CreditAttribution: wernercd commentedSame error. Ubuntu 10.10, VSFTPD... Drupal 7.0 base install.
j. ayen green CreditAttribution: j. ayen green commentedI have it working now, on Drupal 7. In my case, I was running on my own linux box, so I needed to install proftpd so that I was running a FTP server. The 7.0 release, unlike the alphas and betas, pops up a page for providing ftp credentials. Once I had ftp installed with a user with the proper permissions (Drupal needs to be able to delete files, add directories, etc.) and pointing to the Drupal root of the domain, the updates/new installs work like a charm.
bfroehle CreditAttribution: bfroehle commented@wernercd:
Can you provide a list of steps you take to reproduce the error you are getting. For example,
On a Ubuntu 10.10, VSFTPD install.
Install D7.
Go to XXYYZZ page.
Choose AABBCC option.
...
Screen stays stuck at QQRRSS
etc.
Thanks!
(Please reset the status to 'active' when you reply.)

fixus971 CreditAttribution: fixus971 commentedI know Drupal, FTP and other things but I don't found a method to use Drupal 7 Update.
I activated and configured vsftpd
but Drupal7 return: Cannot connect to FTP Server, check settings
If I change "localhost" in "127.0.0.1" it seem go right but get other permission error
Error message
Installation failed! See the log below for more information.
extlink
* Error installing / updating
* File Transfer failed, reason: Cannot create directory /media/Ark/www/fixweb7/sites/all/modules/extlink
Next steps
(Stop!)
Thanks

BartK CreditAttribution: BartK commentedI was able to work around this problem by deleting /tmp/updates-* and running the update process again.
dynamicdan CreditAttribution: dynamicdan commentedI got this just then on my production server.
I tried to install this: http://ftp.drupal.org/files/projects/content_access-7.x-1.x-dev.tar.gz
Worked the second time.
7.0-rc4
Comment #13
Anonymous (not verified) CreditAttribution: Anonymous commentedSounds like a workaround is in place at least, plus this is against RC... so closing.
joelpittetReopening this as it is still an issue as rediscovered in #2042447-83: Install a module user interface does not install modules (or themes)
catchWhile it seems like this was rediscovered five years ago, there's no sign of it being reproduced since, so I'm going to go ahead and close this as 'cannot reproduce' again.
