chx is taking a break from core for a bit http://drupal4hu.com/node/316 however, I think it's very fitting to take this moment and write up a post thanking him for all of his TREMENDOUS efforts throughout the Drupal 4.x-7 releases, as well as the many other things he does to help onboard new contributors, etc.
Anyone want to co-author this with me? :)

webchickSomething i think would be cool, btw, is for people to share "stories about chx" which we could collect together as part of the post. For example, how chx got you into core development, funny chx saying, etc. :)
juan_g commentedWell, for example chx has been one of the top 10 Drupal 7 contributors.
Remember the contributor cloud from Drupal 7.0 is released!? Many great people there, including chx:
And there is chx in the Drupal learning curve... chx can not be distracted... ;)

kattekrab commentedDon't really know chx that well - but happy to help if I can. Certainly no doubt about the value of his contributions to this community. Let's get him profiled already!

webchickchx's first core patch: #10849: Get i18n work with 4.5 :)

jide commentedI like this funny diagram :)

mgiffordI'd say that this still needs to be done. Doesn't appear here https://drupal.org/community-spotlight
I added a related issue. Lots of folks list chx as a mentor. We should be able to produce a simple form to ask those people to give their feedback about why they listed him and perhaps a funny story that they have to share.
We're really not making good use of the mentor field in our profiles.

dddave commentedGiven that chx has more or less retired this would become a community obituary (kind of).
webchickI still think this is a great idea. I have less than zero bandwidth for taking this on myself, though, which is how it managed to sit here for years. :\ Unassigning, in the hopes someone else can take the lead.

mgifford@dddave I do think that @chx has given a lot to this community. Whether he's active in the future nobody can say for sure.
What we can say with confidence is that we've got lots of folks in this community that have given lots of their personal and professional time to this community and we are really really bad at recognizing their work.
This was one of the problems I was trying to raise here #2203355: Make it Easier to Spotlight Community Members & Their Contributions
We need to make it easier to recognize folks who have contributed. Ideally that happens before they get burned out or disillusioned (or whatever, I don't really know).

penyaskitochx got to the 1000-commit-mentions-in-core milestone some weeks ago.
mgiffordAll these people have listed chx as a mentor - https://drupal.org/profile/profile_my_mentors/chx
I'm willing to go through all these folks and send them a note (via twitter or email) to ask them to go this GoogleForm.
There are a lot of folks, but obviously he's touched a lot of people. I'd prefer to just do this for folks who have twitter as it's less invasive than email.
Thoughts, concerns?

kattekrab commentedHey Mike,
If you're willing to start drafting something, I'm willing to help build it with you!
I'd be wary of pinging people directly via twitter or email though - perhaps just a general call out, and ask a couple of key people to retweet?
cheers
Donna

kattekrab commentedI've started a google doc to draft something. Mike - I'll share it with you.
Anyone else who wants to help - ping me somewhere contact form or twitter and I'll add you.
Once it's more than an empty page, I'll change to "anyone with the link" to get more eyeballs.

tvn commentedHi all,
leighc recently joined the Drupal Association as a content writer. One of the things she'll be helping with are Community Spotlights. I created dedicated component in this queue to organize this work. Feel free to open issues and nominate community members for the spotlight. One person per issue, please! Leigh will go through the issues, regularly pick some and write up spotlight posts. If anyone feels like writing a post, feel free to do so. Leigh can help you with the final review and polish.
Thanks for taking this spotlight on, kattekrab! Let us know when you want some more people to help.
mgiffordJust as a note, @chx is still with us actively volunteering https://www.flickr.com/search/?tags=chx&sort=date-posted-desc&user_id=43...
When was the last community spotlight anyways? May apparently.
It took way too many clicks to find this pate from the spotlight, but we really should get @chx listed here https://www.drupal.org/community-spotlight

leighcan commentedDoes anyone want to pick this up? I'm changing to 'postponed' in the meantime.
