I've written a simple but powerful module called Image Enhanced Scaling that really improves the quality of thumbnails and preview images. It adds a touch of sharpening and optionally converts all derivative images to a color profile of your choice (such as sRGB). This is especially useful if you're using "professional" color profiles such as AdobeRGB in your original images since colors often look faded with those profiles if the browser isn't color profile aware.
I know people have been doing sharpening and stuff like this before in Drupal, but I don't think there is a module that does this for you, without patches... until now! All you need besides image.module is ImageMagick.
I haven't uploaded this to CVS or added a project page yet, but I will do so within a couple of days. Until then I was hoping that some of you would like to try out this beta version and give me some feedback. Bad spelling, bad name, fundamental flaws? Good stuff? Let me know!
This project is a donation to the David Busta Spinal Cord Injury Research Fund. Efforts are ongoing, but it looks like the major functionality for this years' site is in. Each year we'll develop more robust functionality.
Those of you looking for a very good image upload/editing plugin for tinyMCE may be interested in imanager: Demo . Download it here. It is by far the best image plugin i have come across so far. be sure to read the comments to solve some issues when installing it.
Only problem is that the liscense does not allow commercial use.
