Announcing the OpenSearch Aggregator

For those of you who don't subscribe to Planet Drupal, I thought it was worth mentioning that Steven Wittens has released a new way for integrating Drupal with OpenSearch RSS feeds. The implications of this are huge, and anybody who is doing anything in the search field, as well as anyone who uses software such as Nutch, should perk up and take note.

Drupal 5 release candidate

Rejoice fellow Drupalites! After just two betas we present you the first Drupal 5 release candidate (RC1).

Download it from: http://drupal.org/files/projects/drupal-5.0-rc1.tar.gz.

You can read about the new features in the beta 1 announcement. In contrast to the beta's, most debugging has been done and, should no more fatal bugs emerge, this version is release worthy. A list of all the bugfixes since beta 2 can be found on the release page.

While we do not recommend to run release candidate 1 on production sites, we are going to break the rule ourselves on Drupal.org, in order to test Drupal 5 on a large site. We plan to upgrade Drupal.org to Drupal 5 RC1 somewhere during the next couple of weeks.

You may be glad to know that some of the most used contributed modules, such as CCK and Views have already been upgraded to work with Drupal 5. Others, such as Image and Image assist are actively being worked on. For a complete list, visit the Modules page and select 5.x from the dropdown menu. For all the other modules: keep your eye on the modules' issue queues or on the post Contrib modules version 5.x status to get an idea on the upgrade time-frame. If you are a module maintainer; Now is the time to start working on the update to Drupal 5.

We still need your help turning this release candidate into a true release! Read on to find out how....

Considering the South to South current cooperation and leadership position in OS,
This can be a good opportunity:

  • to launch a promotion and marketing activities (a stand, a paper, a poster).
  • to support the Administrator of the website to insert the calendar module, create a set of groups and newsletters, etc...
  • to demostrate the big features of Drupal as Community Framework Manager (CFM) , pro-action, pro-activity and collaborator booster..... in addition to the well-known CMS where maybe there are other competitive solutions.
  • to do a barCamp or work-meeting of Latin America and Spanish Drupalers. (Maybe also Portugesses and Italians) to discuss a join agenda of projects and activities

Drupal's New Theme: It's Everywhere!

Drupal's new default theme, Garland, is one of the many impressive parts of the upcoming 5.0 release, and the rest of the open source community has noticed! While Drupal 5 races towards completion, the folks at Wordpress.com have ported the new Garland theme and Steven Wittens' slick color switching tool for use with Wordpress.

January Lullabot Workshops in Providence, RI

Lullabot has another round of workshops coming up in January. We've got a great space in Providence, RI centrally located for people in both the Boston and New York areas -- and close to the airport for people coming from further away. Over the course of the week, we'll be building a single project – a Drupal-based CRM and attendees can sign up for individual workshops, or stay the whole week to see the project from beginning to end. Here's the rundown:

Ann: Simple adsense injector module (beta)

I've been using this simple module on my sites, in order to do automatic insertion of adsense.module ad code into my nodes when viewed as a full page (not teaser, not in a list) - this is nice because you don't have to muck around with hand-inserting [adsense:WxH:n:n] tags, and you don't have to mess with node templates - just drop the module in, enable, configure, and go.
