Keep your Drupal 5.x site up to date with Update Status module

Thanks to the hard work of several contributors, drupal.org can now automatically provide information about the latest official releases of drupal core and any contributed modules. The Update status module can check this information to tell you if your site needs to be updated. While it does not have information about development releases or modules acquired via CVS, if your site uses primarily officially released modules, you can easily tell which of your modules need to be updated.

This module will inform you that you are out of date by visiting the main administration page, and another page displays the status of Drupal and your installed modules. For more information, there is a Frequently Asked Questions available on the update status project page!

Drupal as possible codebase for "RITALIA.IT", italia.it remake?

It might be any webmaster dream, but the 45 millions euro Italian government spent on the Italian Official Tourism Portal, http://www.italia.it are a bit too much. But even more annoying is the fact that this site, that took over 2 years for its completion, is fairly old-fashioned: an intro page, heavy flash animations, too much clicks to get to the target page. It looks like all Italy's contradictions are mixed up and served in this web cocktail: the nicest ingrendients, but the slowest, complicated and of course expensive recipe. If this might be acceptable for a Gucci's handbag or just a dish of "pasta", it's definitely not for a website, especially now where lightweight, user-centered design and webstandards are the common ground for any developer.

For this reason, a group of Italian or Italy-based web-savvy people - information architects, php programmers, designers and writers - have given life to the "Ritalia.it" project, where the leading R means everything from Remake to Resurrection. Of course, better.

The target of this project is to rebuild the italia.it project with its full features in the shortest time possibile and at the lowest cost. Thus, Drupal platform has been taken into consideration as the starting code base and although no decision has been made yet, it comes as a great statement for all Drupal project contributors.
