Very big Drupal fish catched in Germany

Looks like bloomstreet.net (a german MySpace clone) is a Drupal application. There was quite some buzz in the german press about a social network in development at w/ritemedia GmbH which is associated with Bertelsmann AG. Financial Times Germany wrote , that the launch was planned for December 2006 but was postponed till 2007-03-01.

Drupal Norge gives away 100 Drupal sites to non-government organizations

To effectively promote Drupal in Norway, the norwegian Drupal site Drupal Norge (http://drupalnorge.no) will be giving away Drupal websites to 100 non-government organizations in Norway. The goal of this undertaking is to give awareness to the power of the magnificent open-source web publishing platform Drupal, in Norway.

According to Drupal Norge:

A lot of websites of non-government organizations in Norway are just static pages which are seldom updated. These NGOs play very important roles in the norwegian society. By giving them a dynamic site, their horizons will broaden and can give better help to the norwegian people. This project, aside from promoting the use of Drupal in Norway, is our own little way of contributing something not only to Drupal but also to the norwegian society at large.

Userplus for 5.x released (finally)

The subject line says it all -- Userplus is finally available for Drupal 5.x. The project page and README will get you up to speed on the changes, of which there aren't many.

Lazy registration module for Drupal 4.7

Today I figured that the module I developed a while ago and never completely finished rotted enough on my hard drive.

The lazy registration module implements lazy registration for Drupal.

It can create accounts automatically, purge them after a period of time, allow users to make them permanent by either email confirmation or a simple edit to the account.

The account is created the first time the user tries to access an area which requires authentication. There are two ways of handling a user trying to access a members only area:
- Automatically create a temporary account
- Display a login form with the option of continuing with a temporary account.

Users can confirm the account in two ways:
- By editing their account information
- By email confirmation to make sure people don't enter bogus email addresses

Email confirmation is still buggy. A small test is here: http://dev.creditlink.ro/andu/4.7/node/248.

Until the files get prepared by the Drupal release system you can download it here: http://voidberg.org/files/lazyreg.tar.gz.

Some posts where I talked about it: here and here.
