meshing cms

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone might know how I might let 2 cms apps, say xoops and drupal, share the same database so I could mesh information between the engines..

A shot in the dark. ;-)

Site Maintenance Improvement

I think that instead of the site going down and displaying a drupal screen, drupal should have a maintenance mode that displays a snapshot of the site when the administrator clicked the button. This would kind of be like a sandbox, but when the administrator was done with the the updates / construction, the site would return to live. While in maintenance mode, the user could be alerted with a message stating that they wont be able to create content and are looking at an old snapshot of the site. Can this be accomplished with Sandbox?

Search this website and other drupal sites (very unuseable)

I'm building my first real website with Drupal and i need:

- Downloads section
- News section

I also need blocks with:

- latest news
- latest downloads

I've searched for eons on this website, but every time i search for "news module" the search results have nothing to do with it (other then a XML parser that fetches news from other website)
Searching for "downloads module" has no good results either.

How do you people search on a Drupal website where everything is a node so any search result is any node and not what you want?

theming

As a new drupal user, my only legitimate complaint is that it is too hard to control theming. Everything that drupal and the drupal community has done blows my mind. I'm currently recommending it to friends and associates. But, as an average consumer (or non-programmer) who knows a little html and css, I still have a hard time getting my pages to look and feel the way that I want them to. I can't even get custom logos to load on my site. (I use CS3 to create images and logos)

(opinions) community site design: newspaper style or 'networking' style?

so i'm putting up a new drupal 6 site for my town...things to know: town is very, very wired, right outside boston, mostly verizon fios and comcast/rcn high speed cable, penetration over 90ish percent, reasonably affluent white collar community, etc...very strong focus on education and school system, town services and so on...

when i first went about putting out sketches for this new site, because it is just ME doing it unofficially, i was thinking all newspaper style, like a fastcompany.com type of site with nice crisp block layouts (panels and views type stuff)...sections like the town newspaper...

but then i realized that the whole point was about 'connectedness' (i know, i know, very fluffy) and i wanted to encourage interaction above just plain readership...particularly with forums and all of that...

so after years of working on highly ornate sites, feature rich, yadda yadda, i've kind of come to believe that it should be super super simple..

Image Attachments to Nodes

I was wondering if there is a clear cut way to attach and/or upload images to nodes without contributed modules.

I know you can enable the upload module and use an img tag to display the uploaded image, but that doesn't seem very user-friendly, as you'd have to change the Input format to Full HTML to allow the img tag.

I also know about the Image module + Image Assist module (both contributed modules), but they pre-drupal 6.0.
