Looking for Drupal/php expert to upgrade site from 4.7 to most recent version

Our site has not been upgraded since Drupal 4.7. Would like to catch up with the rest of the world, but do not trust my skills, as I have been filling in since site developer quit on January and I had not even heard about Drupal prior to that time.
Our site is a national political/activist site with, if you believe the statistics, about 5,000 to 10,000 unique visitors per month.

How to email users?

I need to send out an email to all registered users to advise them that the present site is to close and advise them of the new site's url.

How do I do this?

user cannot edit their own content

I'm using CCK with 4.7, and it's setup so when a user adds or edits cck nodes, they go into unpublished state until admin approves it. The problem is the user can no longer access that node, receiving an access denied message. How can I work around this? Users should have access to their own data at all times. What if the user adds an item, then quickly realizes they missed something and go back to make further changes....

In access control, the user has the permissions to 'edit own content_profile' and 'edit content_profile'.

Thank you

Upgrading from 4.5 to 5.8 breaks imagefield

After upgrading none of my images are showing. I use CCK imagefields to display summary images, and story images in a piece of custom content called "News Story."

When looking at the variables in the content template:

$node->field_story_image[0]['view'] (NULL)

All of the other variables are fine, but for some reason, these are all NULL. The were fine before the upgrade.

Any ideas?
