Converting to Drupal

my data base is in sql...

how can i work in sql with drupal???

These instructions are of no help...

Questions:
I installed it and turned it on in modules... now what? I don't see a settigns for it.. its there supposed to be? Is there a file I need to edit? which one?

1) PHP filter? what is that? where do I find it? where can I read more about it? it's not a module..
2) Not all areas are required, but without left/right defined, the node is pretty pointless. What does that mean? How do I do that? Where?
3) modules can simply use theme_dashboard() to create custom dashboards. How? where?

Howdy Drupal folks... We've been hearing a LOT of good things about Drupal for several months, and have been playing with providing a livetime blog for our users, and now having made a committment to using Drupal, am interested in converting our current forums (Invision Power Board - IPB) to Drupal.

I've read through this site, especially http://drupal.org/node/28109 - but so far, all I can find out is how to duplicate the user ID's - not the content itself.

i have a virtual site on my 'personal' OSX 10.4.3 server. Drupal 4.6.3, Apache 1.3.33, php 5.0.4

in the site root dir directory lives several [php] applications, including an install of Drupal, i.e., Drupal's files/folders are unpacked in the root dir.

Drupal has the option in it's admin settings for Clean Urls --a checkbox-- so that it doesn't write stuff like '?q=' on urls.

it uses this supplied .htaccess file:

I am wondering if a site like www.ballpython.com can be coverted to Drupal? Given the functionality:

Rotating headers
Deep content with individual headers (under morphs)
Database for available products
New Updates....

If I wanted to clone a site like that, could it be made in Drupal?

I want to change my system to drupal 4.7 with the next release, and im currently looking for a nice way to migrate my data. There are around 100 nodes i have to import to the new site, which are mainly articles with images inside. Is there an API I can use to write a little import script or should I write directly to the database? Should I import the images as nodes, or should I just upload the files to any directory on the host? What do you think is the best way?
