Need help migrating your site to Drupal?

creating a Newsroom page with links to items?

I've been trying to figure out if there is a simple way to do this, it looks like the Taxonomy module is meant for this, but having a very hard time accomplishing this.

Basically, just want to create a Newsroom page that automatically lists the most recent items posted under that category. For example, if the user goes to "create content > page", can they then select "Newsroom" as a category, and then have a page at /newsroom/ update automatically with the date and title, and also update a block in the right sidebar with the same information?

Need Help with phpbb2drupal Errors

Sorry, looks like I need help again. Last time I posted, I managed (with help) to get through this, only to find out my version of MySQL didn't support the "GRANT CREATE TEMPORARY TABLES" privilege. So I decided it was time to upgrade everything. This time, I'm on CentOS 4.x, using PHP5.04-5, MySQL 5.0.22, and Apache 2.0.52-28.

Since I'm migrating FROM a PostgreSQL database, I've patched the includes/database*.inc files, and patched the phpbb2drupal.module to allow multiple connection types as recommended.

Here's the problem: On the "Configure" page for phpbb2drupal, it won't let me migrate because it says:

    * Table phpbb_categories does not exist!
    * Table phpbb_forums does not exist!
    * Table phpbb_posts does not exist!
    * Table phpbb_posts_text does not exist!
    * Table phpbb_topics does not exist!
    * Table phpbb_users does not exist!

Some tables couldn't be found. Please correct the errors so that the phpBB2 tables can be accessed.

and

    * Table phpbb_privmsgs does not exist!
    * Table phpbb_privmsgs_text does not exist!

Couldn't find the phpBB privatemsg tables.

Yet there should be a flood of errors at the top--but there are none there, or in the logs. I can't find anything to correct. All the tables listed above do indeed exist. Did I miss a patch?

Thanks.

How to convert live static site to Drupal?

Converting from a live static site to Drupal must be a pretty common requirement, but doesn't seem well documented.

This is not a question about styling, layout etc, but about the workflow where the old site must continue working during the development of the new site.

Can anyone explain the steps needed to keep an existing site live while developing the Drupal version? What is 'best practice' in this situation?

All suggestions and comments appreciated!

Converting from NewsPub to Drupal

I currently have a Drupal installation at www.gamersuplink.com that I am working on. So far, it's pretty good...A very strong system. I still have quite a bit of content I am migrating over to the system. One major item is all the old news and information.

For the news, I used a program called "News Publisher" located at www.gwscripts.com. The data and information was housed in a text file sorted as follows:

Migrating a FileMaker Pro 7 database to MySQL with a Drupal front end

Well... I have been toying with Drupal 4.6.5 for a bit. I have been experimenting wit FMPro Migrator ( an app that will allow me to move my FM database to MySQL.) It looks as if I will maintain the architecture of the tables from one DB to the other, with only minor headaches. But I have yet to delve into how to integrate this new MySQL db into a Drupal driven system. Has anyone ever heard of such a migration? Would creating a module around the tables/ layout of the existing FM front end be a dauting task? In other words... my feet are wet but my ankles are dry; shall I jump in?
