Converting to Drupal

We almost converted our inside pages to drupal 6. Now trying to configure our home page.

Home page has top 1 (Header image) block and 7 bottom blocks. What is the best way to do that? I fought for some time, and almost gave up. Please suggest:

I am trying to convert a static site to drupal and need to recreate the functionallity I used to create with overlib.

Especially the function to popup text or images is what I am looking for.

I don't want to force Drupal to use the overlib library, but to do it the Drupal way and hope there is a solution already.

Right now there is a huge blank space below all posts, you can see the example here:

How do I make it so that the blank space will shrink to right below the text?
