Converting a Community Based website from Joomla! 1.5 to Drupal

Hello All,
Decently new to the Drupal system, Joomla! has been my CMS of choice for quite some time now. Recently a friend directed me here (along with quite a few reviews I read). I am in the process of building a new organization based website with Joomla!, but after going over a lot of the content here, I believe I would like to switch to Drupal.

I have a decent frame-work of how Drupal works (Have it installed on a /play on my current website so I have been basically self educating myself, and I can usually sit down and learn a newer system in several days (and be decently proficient).

As of current, I am working with.
Joomla! 1.5.15
UddleIM for Private Messaging
Kunea Forums

This set up is pretty sub-par to me, I find the system pretty weak, and not at all visually appealing (there are some paid extensions that might improve this, but I am simply not enjoying working with it).

I have browsed the forums and I am certain Drupal can fit my needs, and after I saw this http://www.betternetworker.com/ I'm simply inspired. (Granted that site did take quite some time and has a few hacks). I have seen similar sites built with Joomla, but none that were that professional.

HELP! Wordpress to drupal Youtube problem

I am migrating a wordpress blog with thousands of posts to drupal. Everything imported smoothly except the youtube videos. Its just showing text like this:

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EaI0U1_IW4]

Is there a way to automatically change this to the embed code? The video input format is no help because the syntax is [video:url] not [youtube:url]

HELP!!!

Converted Site AS2-PHP Recipe maker

I have been assigned work on a website that was converted to Drupal and has an embedded flash application written with Action Script 2.0. The application allows users to create a recipe from a group of ingredients in a dropdown box. The application then stores the recipe in a table in a MySQL database. After the user creates the recipe and clicks the “Save” button, I need to have the flash application check if the user is registered and logged in before the recipe is saved to the database. If the user is registered and logged in the application will save the recipe, however if they are not, the user will be prompted to resister and or log in. The catch is that the recipe they created before they were logged in has to still be there when they complete the registration process and/or log into the site.

My idea was to write a script in Flash that uses LoadVars to load a variable from a PHP script that checks the database for a Drupal identifier indicating that the current user is logged in. The Script would echo a string like “&true” if they are. Using an “if, else” statement the application would either continue unaffected if “true” or redirect the user to the login/signup page if not. If the user is redirected, how can the recipe that they created be stored temporarily in the database and moved to the correct table once the user has logged in?

Node management

I am new to drupal and migrating from joomla.

The site is a travel site and is used for finding holidays for the disabled.

In joomla I created a componant for managing the holidays, to access the list of holidays one click componants and holiday manager for a list of holidays that one can edit, manage, add remove etc.

Under drupal using CCK i created a note type called holidays with required fields.
