OASIS & IDABC

Hi folks,

I know that there has been some discussion in drupal about exchanging richer data than RSS provides. Sharing more content than feeds. I was looking for threads about what options had already been considered.

Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs\base\modules\user.module on line 174.

Hi.

I am getting couple of errors.
I am new to drupal and php. I have no idea what these errors are.
Please help.

extending the blog module?

Is anyone working on extending the blogging module so it becomes a bit more feature rich personalizing-wise?

When I say that I mean:

  • Ability to make them really work like personal blogs: adding a pic (not one for each post) & pretty urls (en mass per many users without manual intervention with the path mod)
  • Ability to let users add their own blocks such as hand crafted links of rss feed info

I know I can hack this stuff in, but it freaks me out to think of upgrading thereafter.

Anyone interested in taking up pyromanfo's forum patches?

pyromanfo put together quite a few forum-related patches a while back, but most of them aren't quite ready to go into core as it stands. I've spoken with pyro, and unfortunately he's burned out on Drupal work for the moment, and isn't planning to take them back up right now.

I'm considering moving my own forums over to Drupal, and pyro's patches address a lot of items at the top of my wishlist for Drupal's forum. If my PHP skills were up to it I'd take these patches up myself, but unfortunately they're not. So I figgure the least I can do is see if anyone else would be willing to pick up where he left off.

Obviously the main list of code he's submitted can be found via his track page, but here's some of the main ones:

Flexiforum - to allow any node type to be used on a forum
Patch doesn't apply to current CVS

Multipage Topic Links - if a thread is multiple pages, show "Page 1, 2, 3..." on the thread index page
Needs to be moved to pager.inc (probably also holds true for some of the below)

Comment Permalinks - currently links to a particular comment don't work if a comment isn't on the first page of the thread, this addresses it
Current patch doesn't account for comment threading

International Conference on Supporting Group Work

    Hi all

To me, the great strength of Drupal are the 'community plumbing' aspects that encourage (enforce?) collaboration. So, some Drupalers might be interested in the following conference or have insights into some of the issues they might want to contribute:

"GROUP 2005 provides a forum for researchers and practitioners who are interested in topics related to computer-based systems that have an impact on groups, organizations and social networks. Relevant issues include design, implementation, deployment, evaluation, methodologies, and effect of these systems."

    Group 2005 Conference
    November 6-9, 2005
    Sanibel Island, Florida, USA

    More details available at:

    To quote the blurb:

    * THE TOPIC *
What makes communities grow and prosper, or wither and die? In this workshop we'll explore this question by taking a close look at how incentive structures interact with short and long term viability. We'll address questions such as "What motivates participants to contribute?" "What social and technical mechanisms support (or deter) contribution?" and "How and to what extent can designers design sustainable communities?"

    * THE CONTENT *
We are interested in open source communities, community-managed discussion spaces like Slashdot, social network-based communities such as Orkut, open content communities like Wikipedia, group blogs, "real world" communities, and other similar environments.

    Personal & Community Knowledge Managaement

"Community Plumbing"... Thats the tagline for Drupal. Personally I think its appropriate and good

I'd Like to suggest that anoher term that may also accurately describe the same thing and Drupal is "Community Knowledge Management".

Using this term may turn the light on for a lot of people. Vendors are pushing all sorts of Knowledge Management (KM) solutions, most of which are way inferior to Drupal, other than for the superficial polish of their interfaces. Of course the base platform doesnt give anyone a KM solution. KM solutions need to be built out of Drupal. But all the potential for great KM solutions are there in the base Drupal platform, just waiting to be formed, moulded and nurtured.

Why is Drupal such a good KM platform? Because real KM is all about people, and about the flow of knowledge between people - community. And Drupal as per its tagline is great at community plumbing.

One more thing that I wish to stress is that communty is formed by people. And any community that wants to succeed needs to put the needs of the individual members as it priority. So in a sense a good community platform, must in fact be an excellent individual platform. Community Knowledge Management at is core is really all about Personal Knowledge Management. but personal knowledge management that is intimately bound to communities. the two are like two ends of a string. You need both of them otherwise you cant even talk about a string.
