I decided I wanted to finish up my attempt to make a profile match/matchmaking/dating module. There has already been some (not so focused :) discussion about this, but I could use some additional input conserning desirable functionality and implementation.
What I'm thinking is (drawing from norwegian spraydate.no, previousely mentioned post) is to make a search for users based on match and a private area with certain functionality. The search could be done by having ordering the users based on matching interest. The admin could enter a range of subjects (in a textarea), and the user could then range how interested they are in each by using a scale. Additionaly the user would be asked for location, what they are looking for and some other stuff.
When it comes to the private area, messages would be important. The private messages module could be used for this, I'll have a look at it to see if additional functionality could be used. Maybe a better apprach would be to have use a private, simple node as it would keep it all in one thread (I believe the private message thing doesn't?). Also users should be able to create a presentation of themselfs to display in their profile (a special tab with links to send message and so on).
It seems to me that Drupal is quickly becoming an ideal (the best?) platform for podcasting. Not only does version 4.6 provide native support for RSS v2.0 enclosures (thereby creating automatic podcast feeds) but there are a whole series of modules that will dovetail nicely with the overriding ambitions of the podcasting community. In particular, I'd like to highlight the following modules/functionality:
- The CreativeCommons module allows user to choose licenses to be embedding with the content as it gets syndicated.
- The Media module facilitates the organisation of multimedia files and allows the users to create playlists and stream content.
- The ping-o-matic feature can automatically notify any number of sites of the existence of new content to be indexed.
- Drupal provides RSS/XML feeds for all category (i.e. taxonomy terms)
Together, the embedded licensing and automatic notification mechanisms will enable new content to be automatically indexed (e.g. in Yahoo's new Creative Commons Search engine and "CreativeCommons Search") and trackable across the internet. Moreover, we are now just a step away from publishing "directly" to archive.org (which promisses "free hosting for life" of CreativeCommons licensed work) simply by uploading an attachment to a new node on your website.
I got an idea when looking at craigs list of classifieds. How about implementing a classified system in drupal, and have the the classifieds shared between all interested sites? A central place could be established, and everybody interested could aggregate the classifieds they want from that place. For instance, a computer site might like to have all used computers in a certain area listed, a drupal site might want all job listing containing drupal or php. These sites would also give the oppertunity to add classifieds.
I feel slightly bad putting this as the first post in this section but there isn't really a 'general stuff that's not entirely related to Drupal coding' section and it seems to fit slightly better here. I haven't actually told any of my friends about my site as I'm waiting to see if it lasts longer than a particularly short, short thing with added shortness. Consequently it's quite easy to see referrers in my logs that aren't crawlers.
Anyone know where I can get a cut and paste list for the nationality
I need in the profile?
(Maybe Dries has one he could provide?...or is there something prepped earlier that I have'nt seen?)
thanks
This is an excellent read as I think about Drupal's role within social software... After years of study, I found this blog from Matt Webb most interesting, and actually very accurate. Enjoy reading.
