Access Logs Causing mysql Crash

I have Drupal 4.6.3 installed on a standard Apache server, hosted by Hostdime. Someone has been poking at the site - an admin page is being called every thirty seconds or so from different urls. Whoever it is has access to huge blocks of them, so ip blocking is not an option.

After several months I had apparently accumulated 500,000 or so entries in the access logs. This is now crashing mysql and bringing down the whole server. Hostdime has said I need to take the site off their server, or run it with something other than Drupal.

I really like Drupal and don't want to migrate if I can avoid it. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions...

Modules installed include Bad Behavior, Tinymce, comment closer, gsitemap, menu, nodewords, ping, spam, statistics, subscriptions, syndication.

The error message forwarded by hostdime follows. I'm not a programmer and know nada about servers so it doesn't mean much to me but I'm including in case it sheds any light for them's that know.

Thanks very much for any help you can offer!

Tech tidbit for installing Drupal on Dreamhost

I thought I should let people know that I didn't find this infobit before I installed Drupal and brought it up on Dreamhost recently. The Dreamhost techsupport folks told me that they are running a Wiki for their own services and their installation technote for Drupal was quite helpful in helping my install process go clean. (I had already downloaded Drupal and unzipped the tarball by the time I ran into it.)

Hope this helps someone.

Uploads are inaccessible (file permissions 600)

When uploading images with image.module, they are saved as user:user with file permissions of 600. Apache is running as nobody and therefore can't serve the images for the webpages. Changing permissions on the files to 644 works, but needs to be done manually after each upload which is no bueno.

Server is running suphp for this site.

I have another site on the same server that is not running suphp and files are saved as nobody:nobody as expected, but with permissions of 644.

Moving severs and PHP

Hey guys.
Installed Drupal 4.6.3 a couple of months back.
Was working a treat, but I had to move server last week to get proper DNS support.
In my haste, I neglected to check the version of PHP the new server was running.
Consequently, the site is no longer working properly. Search facilites are down and the article module is not working either.

You can see the problem here -

Hosting Comparison - what to compare?

I thought it would be helpful to do a survey of web hosting in Canada to see which ones would best suit the many social mission organization I know who want to use Drupal.

Below is a list of features I hope to compare for each hosting company. Can you suggest any other useful points of comparison?

Standard comparison price: $50 CAD month.
Client is a not-for-profit organization with a social mission.
